Any other S60 drivers notice an interference fit between your trunk and the "ditch molding" trim that ends at the base of your rear window?

I noticed today that when I open the trunk, the trunk lifts for a few inches, then there's a "slap/flap" sound as it catches those little black end-caps at the bottom end of the ditch molding on both sides of the rear window. The deck-lid of the trunk catches both of those black end-caps and LIFTS them (and the last 5 to 7 inches of the ditch-molding trim pieces they're attached to). They raise up a bit, and then slap back down onto window!

Is this common? Is there a fix? I was able to push on both of those end-caps and get the whole piece to slide both up-and-forward by about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch with an easy, gentle push with my thumb, so it no longer catches and makes the slap sound. I guess there's some play in that little joint-piece up at the top of the C-pillar.

Anybody else having this interference? Does it keep sliding down? Any harm in pushing those pieces forward like I did? Is there any adjustability in that little 4-bar linkage that opens the trunk? (It doesn't appear so!)

Just wonderin'... Thanks...

Lisa, this is definitely not normal. Check with your Retailer as soon as you can so they can inspect it and, if they have to, remove and re-attach the trunk lid. It seems like a bad fit from the factory or (I hope not) the car had a fender-bender at the lot...Alright, alright, I will stop!

Thanks, Yannis. Way to give me heartburn...
I guess I *will* need to take it in, but before I do...

How large of a gap do you (or anybody else out there with a ruler and a compulsive desire for useless knowledge!) think there should be?

Right now I can barely fit one finger-tip of my index finger between the corner of the trunk and that black end-cap piece. One side I can just get my finger "in", and the other is a tad tighter than that. And I don't mean the width of your finger tip, I mean height...you know...with your nail touching the black end-cap and your "pad" where your finger print is touching the metal of the trunk deck lid.

Would you guess that the gap is supposed to be a little larger than that, or quite a lot?

I do not drive an S60, at this point...my demo is a V40 and this week I am off. Next week, I will check and post. In the meantime, hopefully, one of the S60 owners might measure it and post...

I just measured my gap, and it's 7 mm on both the left and right sides. I had to push the left one forward again between my 1st post and today. The trunk now opens without grabbing those end-caps, but it's still very close, and almost catches.

Yannis, thanks if you get a chance to measure next week. You know I'd appreciate it!

Lisa,

I measured the space on my ex-demo (S60 AWD, it is inside our showroom now) and another S60 2.4 A SR, like yours. Both cars had a clearance of 1.0 cm, which is 3 mm more than what you have found in yours. Take it to your Retailer and find out why the clearance is less. 3 mm is pretty significant, that is about 33% difference than normal.

Thanks, Yannis. I will. The gap seems to be way too small, especially considering that I had to push them forward to even get the 7mm! I have another issue, too, with the left rear window, so I'll see if they can look this and the window. Thanks, as always, for your help!

No problem!

BTW, I found one of our demos (a 2.4T model) had less than favorable clearance like yours and the ends of the plastic (colored) moldings had popped up (I guess because of heat or whatever), so we will be replacing them under warranty. But that could also be a problem with yours...
