Just got it...was wondering, am I doing something wrong? It seems that the trunk unlatches itself at random times (no, I am not touching the remote)...has anyone else ever heard of this? thanks..

By chance, is the trunk button on your remote stuck? I seem to recall this is a common problem for some S60s.

One thing to try is to keep the remotes as far away from the car as possible. If the trunk stops unlatching randomly, then your remotes are probably the culprit.

kelly54,

I have a new S60 2.4T and have noticed the same behavior. I also believe the problem is related to the remotes. There have been posts on other Volvo web sites and the problem seems to be sticking buttons. I starting using the second remote provided with the car and have not had any problems with it. Also, the car alarm could also activate for the same reason. You might want to request new remotes from the dealer whit your first service. I tried to "fix" mine by taking it apart and using some WD40 and actually made it worse!!

Hope this helps.

Our 2.4t had the same problem. Trunk would unlatch at random, sometimes while driving. Never popped open but dash warning lights woud come on. We took it to dealer, left it for a day so they could experience it. The determined that the latch was too short to engage the locking mechanism (said it was not the same as other s60's). Fixed and it hasn't been a problem since.

Just an update..it looks like the remotes are OK..the dealer just called and said that it is the trunk lock itself..he had to order a new one..I will let you know if this fixes the problem..thanks to all for the great advice!!

I've started to experience trouble with my trunk latch as well. It refuses to latch and the indicator light in the dash is on. Took the car to my dealer this morning and he ordered a new latch mechanism.

I'll keep you posted.

Update on trunk problem. I know this seems trivial, especially in light of recent events, but I hope this can help others. The entire latch was replaced by the dealer over 3 weeks ago, and the problem is gone.
