I had some free time and saw the Viva trunk brace and tried to make one.

I don't pretend myself as a professional welder but this might do the job.

So all in all, how much time and money did this cost you?

I thought of doing the same and use heim joints.

that is awesome. If it is cost efficient I would def want to make my own, especially with access to the machine shop here at school

nice! Looks identical to the ultra racing one...except that gaudy yellow paint.
if we are going to be picky we could mention all the fingerprints on the freshly painted brace when installed. :D

Less than 20$ and approx 3 hours
all settings (welding in place cutting parts mesurement removing things in the trunk) i would say 2h, an 1h for the paint 2 coats letting dry a bit between...
It make good changes for little time on a monday night!

Sorry for my ignorance but what are the benefits of this?

This.

Rear chassis braces are used to strengthen the rear chassis, eliminating strange suspension noises while providing more stability during acceleration and extreme cornering. The vehicle's chassis flex is minimized by connecting the rear shock towers for extra torsional strength.

Meant to be 100% compatible with factory suspension components, our rear chassis braces are ideal for road race applications, or for spirited drivers with modified street vehicles.

Features:
Light weight design to enhance torsional strength
Eliminates body flex for improved handling and drive characteristics
Mounts directly to strut towers. NO modifications required (please note: some chassis braces may mount to the car with the adhesive decal oriented upside-down)
Manufactured using steel, MIG welded joints for high strength
Powder coated finish for lasting protection
