I am looking to buy my kid a car to last him at least six years. I am told by a volvo repair guy that if i buy an S80 2004 model year im very likely going to have to replace the transmission. Im sure this is expensive.

Is this true and if so what does this roughly cost? My ex is a royal pain and this would be a nice used car for him to have with reasonable miles but if repairs build quickly it probably wouldnt be worth it.

Any advice would be helpful. I have to decide very soon.

THank you.

The only car with real transmission issues would be if it was a T6. If its a 2.9, I've heard of transmissions failing on them but not to the extent of the T6's. If its a 2.5T, bulletproof powertrain combo but there are some common things that you will need to look out for.
