Started noticing this problem about a week ago. When I floor it it doesn't want to down shift. For example, before if I floored it on the highway, it would do from 5th to 4th and then to 3rd. Now, all is does it lags a little, then goes down to 4th and just hangs there. I use 93 oct, and I recently cleaned the k&n filter.

First thing to do is clean your maf. lots of instructions on here too.

Will it downshif if the transmission is in 'S' mode?
How does the engine feel in general?
Any power loss?

+1 on cleaning the MAF. Fresh oil on the K&N...

maf was replaced last year.. Faulty? I have nothing coming up in the dash. Did not try it in S mode. But that's because before I never had this problem and the transmission was always very responsive. And it does feel like there is less power overall in the higher rpms. Filter was cleaned after noticing this problem. Oh also noticed my mpg has become horrible.

The fresh oil you put on you k&n can get on the maf and skew the readings. So try cleaning the maf and see what happens.

How fast are you going when you floor it? If you're going 65-70 MPH or higher, it will only give you 4th because going to 3rd wouldn't last very long anyway before you run out of revs.

sorry for the late reply. I was actually around 50ish. I am now also noticing it will shift up to the next gear right under 6th gear after choking for a second in 1st, 2nd and 3rd..didn't check 4th. this is a new one.. My car is falling apart. Can this be a boost leak related issue? I've cleaned the MAF. I also just got in a new HD TCV which I will be putting in soon.

try pulling the fuse(s) to reset the ECU? some have noted shift improvements after the adaptives reset.... I always notice my car runs a little different, sometimes better, after disconnecting the battery.

perhaps the oil on the MAF threw the adaptives way out of range and simply cleaning the MAF didn't also reset the adaptives...
