I hear a "clunk" when I first start off in the morning going from reverse to drive. Sounds like it's something "gearing-in" on the Haldex system.

Not sure what model you are driving, but this is on my S60 2.4T AWD.

I have an S60 T5. I'm taking this noise to the dealer tomorrow and will let you know what they say/do.

On my 2002 AWD, the dealer installed a software patch that helped.
The "thunk" is still there in certain circumstances but it is greatly improved from before.

Do you come to a complete stop when you shift from reverse to drive??? I think mine makes a noise like what you are describing when I dont stop all the way...

I would never not stop when going from D to R or R to D. Usually I go into N first while my foot's on the break just to make sure I quickly come to a full stop (good for saving your transmission in general). The noise I get only comes when I then step on the gas in the new gear selection. That first acceleration in the new gear (either R or D) produces a loud "clunck". After that all take offs are quiet. Until you go to back to R from D or D from R.

I get the same noise. I have always thought that it was like the brakes adjusting or something. I would like to know what the dealer tells you...

The brakes adjusting should never make that kind of noise. My dealer said it was an axle and that the part is on order. Though they said axle, I suspect they meant a CV joint. They didn't say what's wrong with it, only that it needs to be replaced.
