Anyone here has good knowledge of the 6sp auto transmission on the R? I understand that the R has an adaptive transmission. Thinking about a few questions:
1. How long does it take for the tranny to learn the driver's habit?
2. If I drive leisurely in a daily basis, how does the tranny know when I decide to take the R for a mountain run, and drive more aggressively?
3. Is there such a thing as training the tranny, so it would behave in a certain way? For example, is it possible to train it to down shift quicker when I lift off?
This is assuming the S button is pushed all the time, and not shifting manually.
Re: Training the 6sp Auto transmission? (ohw)

Basically adaptive transmission (or microprocessed-controlled like on my 04 S40) can adjust in a mere few minutes and miles. If you beat on it hard and push it, then it will pull/shift quicker/harder and vice-versa, but it can be corrected in just a few minutes to another driving style. I think I explained that correctly, I really don't think you can train it to be only one way, it varies with the mood your in really.
Also, the S button on all modes (or when just in advanced) will always have a quicker shift pattern, due to the throttle response being that much quicker.

Yeah, the automatic pretty much "trains" itself on the fly. I think that while you may be able to make it shift a little differently based on tach points, I don't think its going to get much different or faster based on instanteous throttle differential.
It's those Manuals that are hard to train. So far, all I've ever seen in those is that they go straight to redline and then bad things happen.
