Re: Trailer hitch install? (vergas)

John - are you planning on towing anything with your C70? Or just need a 1 1/4" or 2" receiver for a hitch mounted bike rack, etc.?
If you're gonna tow something - I'd definitely recommend the Volvo hitch and wiring harness. These were designed for your car. Lots of fiber optic doodads (technical term there) on our cars...and 'after market' electronic thingys (another technical term) don't "Play well with others".
I had a local welding shop put a a 2" receiver sleeve on my 05 V50 T5 AWD....just for my swing away bike rack. I'm pretty happy with the job he did (will post pics later) - but he didn't recommend that I tow anything with it. Besides....no turn, brake or running lights.
Finally got around to taking/posting a pic. Pay no attention to the tree pollen all over my V50...it's that time of year.

Re: Trailer hitch install? (vergas)

I have a Volvo hitch, no wiring, just to carry my bikes. Works great--they have to cut out part of the bumper--I had the dealer install--pretty sweet with no real distraction of the lines of the car.

Re: Trailer hitch install? (kzam)

Could you post photos? Curious on the bumper cutout.
I had a local fabricator install a hitch on my 07 (for bike rack) and had it custom made so that all that shows is part of the receiver and its well back up under the car (I use an extension on my rack)--no bumper cutout on mine.
I will post photos as well.
Thanks.

Will try. Need a refresher on posting a pic. Cannot even see the cutout.

Re: Trailer hitch install? (vergas)

My plan for the hitch is for very light duty trailers (essentially hauling a canoe ) or to use for a custom fabricated hitch mounted storage bin (to haul golf clubs with the top down).
I think I'm going to end up with the Volvo hitch as my car has rear bumber sensors and they need to be disabled to use the hitch bin.
thanks for the replies,
John
Parking Sensors

I have rear sensors as well---you can turn them off with the radio controls once they activate (at least on my 08 model)--the option shows up on the screen immediately. You are right though--that constant beep when my bike rack/bike are mounted is annoying!
