I'm in the market for a new car / truck. I test drove the cherokee srt-8 over the weekend. While, I do not plan on trading in the volvo, I thought I would have them give me a value just for sh...t's and giggles.
I just heard from the dealership and they offered me $15k. I was actually surprised. I thought they would offer less especially being a jeep / dodge dealership. I thought they would offer in the 13 or 14k range.
Spec's: 2006, 6 speed, 38253 miles, black with nordi, sports body kit, 18 inch pegs, 17's for winter, 20 % tints, pretty much stock
Anyway, I plan on selling this myself, not trading it in. Am I crazy expecting $20,000 range for the R? I'll probable throw it on ebay when I get a chance. I've had really good luck selling on ebay.
The possible replacements:
530xi 06
M3 06-07
S4 07-08
SRT-8 cherokee 06-08

Trade in value doesn't mean much without the details of the other side of the transaction.

Auction prices are averaging around the $17K range for 06s with about 38K miles. The figure they gave you really dosen't mean anything until you negotiate the price of the car you are buying.

One was completely independent of the other. No prices were discussed on the Srt-8. Asking price is $30k, but I didn't even negiotate anything with them. Didn't make an offer or discuss any possible deals. I aske them to value the R and they did.
Since I'm going through a jeep delearship, they did not really want the R. They contacted wholesalers who offered them 15k for the caR. This might be a little different than your typical deal?

Last time I was at the dealer looking at an XC60 they offered me $19k for a trade in on my R.. which I didn't think was too horrible. I just looked at an 07 VR at another dealership and they offered me $18.5K.

After paying 38 grand for my V70R there is no way I will sell this car. I plan on driving this car till the wheels come off or till my kids grow up and they can keep it.

Re: (sinisin63)

sinisin im with you, keeping forever...however long that is.
but trade in wise...you'll get more money for your car by selling it...easy. as long as its in good shape, it should be fairly easy to sell too. why let the dealer make your money?

Your car is pretty much what I'm looking for, and I expect to pay 21-23k, but that's through a local dealer with CPO...kinda makes me wish you were closer to MI. Or I was closer to CT, whatever. Is your car CPO?

car is not a cpo, but for the price I want and what you are willing to spend, you could still get pretty close to a CPO without going over budget.
Shipping cars these days is extremely common and safe, just fyi.
Hop in a plane, you'll love the ride home.

Flew from MD to MI, purchased the R (from a woman who REALLY had second thoughts...my dad said if it wasn't for me he would have walked lol), slapped the plates from my mom's '01 NA S60 and drove to Hell Paso with it. He said it was VERY hard to keep from playing with all the power lol!! I paid for their flights, food, and hotels.
-Steve

Re: (FORD420diesel)

The dealers get you one way or another...they could offer you $20K for your R but if their price on the SRT8 Cherokee $100K it's not such a good offer.

My last car purchase was from a private seller in Atlanta, flew down there and drove it home. Turned out to be a fiasco, the a-hole didn't even have the title and I had to deal with him for a few weeks to get it.
I should have just walked, but when you fly somewhere for a car...you're probably leaving with it, know what I mean? In the end it was fine, but my wife isn't a big fan of trying it again

I got $14k for my 04 S60R, GT, 50k miles and this was before I even looked at any of their cars. Then negotiated the ride I was interested in down and they didn't pull any funny stuff with the trade nor new rig.

Re: (firehawk618)

Here's the thing with an R, particulary a VR. You will get much more for it if you sold it due to the nature of the vehicle. Those who are looking for an R specifically know that book value may not necesarily apply, as long as you're not ripping them a new one.
Dealers could care less what model it is, to them it's just standard NADA value on a Volvo wagon.

Re: Trade in Value of the "R" (jpbb03)

I have an 06 with just under 13k and CPO till 2013 the dealer wants to give me 21K. It has 18" Pegs and 6spd. Automatic I was looking to sell it myself since the price seemed a bit low.
