Re: Tracking Volvo shipment and delivery - How To (doubleb26)

The callsigns are generally the same forever, but I suppose they could change. Where did you get the callsign from? The most reliable is the one from the Zeebrugge departure log (which is mentioned above), the ones you find by searching can sometimes reference a similar, but wrong, ship.

Another possibility is the ship no longer is reporting weather information. To my understanding, it's purely voluntary and also happens only in certain areas of the Atlantic (on the sailwx site, anyway). What ship are you tracking?

Re: Tracking Volvo shipment and delivery - How To (tmtalpey)

The Wallenius website shows the vessel being loaded in the port, but when I searched for the callsign under the vessel name, it pulls up a sailing from May 2005, not the current sailing.

Could it still be in port and just not updated yet?

Either way, the callsign for OTELLO came back as SCFH, so I'll wait a few more days and check it out.

Thanks.

Yep, that's right callsign, confirmed with the Zeebrugge port information. I would conclude that the ship is no longer sending weather observations to the sailwx server. As I said, many ships don't do this, and in any case sailwx only covers the North Atlantic. Since the ship is clearly in that region, maybe it had a policy change.

If anyone knows of another publicly-available way to track ships at sea, I'd love to hear it!

Re: Tracking Volvo shipment and delivery - How To (tmtalpey)

At what point can you begin tracking? I have a VIN #, but when i go to track it it says that tracking info is unavailable. Delivery date is not expected until Nov. 3 (a little over a month from now). So maybe it is a little early for me to check?

Re: Tracking Volvo shipment and delivery - How To (jabjab8)

I just got my car last week. It only appeared on the W&W website when it was on the ship (about 3-4 weeks before the estimate). The boat then ships and no updates until it lands in the US. Once it appears again, it should arrive at the dealership in a few days providing your dealership is near the Port.

Re: Tracking Volvo shipment and delivery - How To (tmtalpey)

Not sure about the shipwx.info site as being the best for tracking a 2w ship. My V50 was loaded on the HONOR. and the call sign was in the database, and in the zeebrugge database, but I couldn't tell where in the atlantic it was on the shipwx site. Once I entered the VIN, it gave me the current status, then by clicking on the name of the ship on which it was loaded, I could see the ports of call and they would change to red once the ship had left that port.

I scoured the internet, most ship tracking sites are selling GPS units to track where your 300-ton ship is at any given second, (I guess incase your captain decides its a good time to slalom some icebergs.) Not helpful for us.

If anyone has had any recent issues with any of the links in this post, I'd be interested to hear them... thanks.

I tracked my Car on the Ship COURAGE for the last week and a half. No problems with the Shipping site or sailwx.info. Sometimes Sailwx was a little slow but other then that it was a great resource to have.

Yes, possibly as this one apears tempermental:
"Find the ship it's on: Wilhelm Wallenius auto tracking " (http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTracking/searchCargo.do?trackType=Auto) But it seems like a problem on there end.

Here's a couple more good links for tracking:

Car's coming to Canada (eastern side) probably all land in Halifax:
http://www.portofhalifax.ca/Ab...ang=1
(you can sign up for do daily e-mail reports as well!)

This is another ship tracking site:
http://www.aislive.com (you need to register, it's free but with the free version there's not search function so it's manual labour trying to find your ship, I'm strill searching for the 'Tancred' somewhere between Zeeburgge and Southamptom)

The W-W site sometimes acts up, especially in the evenings North America time because of night-time maintenance European time.

Good find on the alternate tracker. As for finding yours between Zeebrugge and Southampton, it's not yet in the open ocean so probably not being tracked. They're efficient in port though, so expect it to move on pretty quickly.

It's not showing up yet at sailwx.com and can't find it on that site I found either. It left Zeebrugge on Feb 13th, how long should it take to get to Southampton?

ps. Here' s pic of the Tancred http://www.schiffsphoto.de/HTM/Car/Tancred.htm

Re: Tracking Volvo shipment and delivery - How To (LTA)

Here's another place to try to find your ship (if it's sending voluntary weather reports, that is).

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/ship_obs.php

This is a graphical view of the same (or similar) data:
http://www.oceanweather.com/data/index.html

Evidently my ship ("Tancred" LALX4) is not sending any weather reports, last I heard of it was in Southampton on Feb 14th.

I just tried this and it didn't work

. Would coming to Canada make a difference? I tried to put the VIN# in and it said the # was invalid.

It's possible it's already landed on the East coast but the W&W site should still recognize the VIN no?

Re: (TFS)

It can take some time for W&W to take the bill of lading into their system, but once it does the VIN should resolve. And it shouldn't matter what the destination port or inland transportation is after arrival. Are you certain you received an accurate VIN, and did you enter it un upper case without spaces, etc? Be sure you use the "Auto Cargo" or "RoRo Cargo" (Roll-On-Roll-Off) links and enter the VIN as "Cargo ID".

Well I repeated the VIN back to the salesman so unless he gave me an incorrect VIN it should be right. Also, I tried lower and upper case and I also tried (from your above post ) picking RoRo cargo but got nothing.

Like I said, it wasn't supposed to be here for another month and a 1/2 but they are telling me now that it should be here before the end of the month so maybe I missed all the shipping stuff already. I would think that it should still be captured though even if it's long off the ship but who knows. Guess I just have to wait till the salesman calls me.

Re: (TFS)

TFS - are you clicking on the link to "Track by Auto"? http://schedule.2wglobal.com/A...AutoI think they keep records for a LONG time since I punch in the VIN for my 2002 S60 and found it. I'll IM you that VIN so you can try it since I KNOW it works.

Hi thanks, got your PM and tried it and it works for me so something is obviously wrong with the VIN, will have to verify it tomorrow. I have chicken scratch writing so perhaps I messed something up.

As for the dealer "playing me for a sucker" that doesn't even make sense. Why would the dealer intentionally give me the wrong VIN and tell me it's coming early for no reason?

Thanks for all this info Tom, can't wait to get it working, i'll let you know if I have any issues (apart from operator error

Thanks guys, got it, he said "vee" I heard "zee" don't know why I heard that as it's typically "zed" here but oh well), my mistake, but it works now, and he's right, it should be here literally any day now.

Updated the leading message to include cmy4x4's Southampton radar site find: http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/radcap.asp "This is a live radar shot of Southampton. It updates approx every 10 minutes. You can watch your ship arriving and departing!" Thanks!
