Just curious - I know a lot of us went and picked up cars in June. Is anyone else's car sailing on the Figaro from Göteborg tomorrow?
For more details than you can probably digest, see tmtalpey's post about all the different sites for tracking your car on its voyage:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=31504
I'm thrilled it'll make it all the way to California in a month! I guess the 7-9 week estimate they give for the west coast includes all the waiting, customs, and delivery before and after the actual ship voyage.
Eric

Re: tracking the voyage home (vizsladriver)

You should have just sent it to Yannis and he could have driven it to you!!!!!Since you are in San Diego and that is where he is headed.....we think? That is if NSA doesn't apprehend him first!

The Figaro loads our V50 in Zeebrugge on Friday. We dropped it in Brussels on the 16th.
From Brussels to Port Hueneme in just over 5 weeks doesn't seem too bad!

Bobalouie3..............
How was the drop process at Sindelfingen? I have a customer dropping there in a week or so. I emailed Marianne and she seems to have a pretty good handle on the process. Is she who you worked with?

BTW...Are you headed home for good? Or do you have to go back?

Re: tracking the voyage home (universityvolvoOSD)

Bob, the drop-off process was about as smooth as one can imagine. Yes, Marianne was who I worked with and she had everything ready for me. Please tell your customer they can contact me at matijevr (at) eucom (dot) mil if they want any information. Your customer's name isn't Carrie, is it?
Yes, this is our permanent change of station to Los Angeles. We were hoping for Florida, NC or Virginia so the AF gave us CA, go figure! Thanks to this forum, I having our Volvo shipped to Volvo of Orange County. It's about 40 miles out of our way, but the recommendations were such that I was willing to go the distance.

WooHoo...our Volvo is now listed as "booked" on Madame Butterfly for the long voyage to Port Hueneme! If they have good seas, our baby should be at Port Hueneme on 2 Aug!

Re: tracking the voyage home (vizsladriver)

Hej, y'all Our XC90 is/was on the Elektra, that left Gothenburg on 6/17/2006 and was in Brunswick GA on 7/3/2006. Does anyone have an clue as to how long it takes the customs broker to get it on a transport to Central FL?? BTW it was easy to track as long as you have your VIN and then just click on the voyage number. Sure hope it got off that ship .

Thanks for the info, Bob. Volvo FDC told us July 17th, and it looks like they will easily make it. It's like waiting for your first child to be born.

Whoa! I hadn't checked in a few weeks, and realized this morning that the Figaro is scheduled to dock in Port Hueneme TOMORROW!
Not sure how long it takes to get through customs and trucked down the 200 miles or so (let alone out to Colorado), but it sounds like time to start pestering the dealer... and I had best get my Prancing Moose sticker order in quick!

Modified by vizsladriver at 11:21 AM 7-23-2006

Re: tracking the voyage home (vizsladriver)

Congratulations!! Our car arrived in port on July 3rd and cleared customs on the 6th. I thought this was pretty good considering the holiday and all. It didn't get to the dealer until the 11th, and we were able to pick it up on the 12th. We were told we would have it by July 17th.
A suggestion before bugging your dealer, would be to call the Customs Agent/Broker listed on the form you should have from the FDC that tells the shipping info. We did just that, and was able to find out that it was on its way to the dealer and scheduled to arrive that day. I was just glad to know that the car had actually gotten off the boat.
The last week of waiting was the hardest, but soon you too will be zipping around on American roads.

The MADAME BUTTERFLY is still scheduled to arrive Port Hueneme today. Our Custom's agent has all the paperwork prepared, just waiting for our baby to be "discharged". From there it's a quick truck ride to Volvo of Orange County and our much anticipated reunion.
To make it even more fun, our US-NATO tags are still on the car and my registration is paid-up through June of 07, hope I can keep them on the car!
I'm very impressed, we dropped or our car at the shipping agent on 28 June and it's due in port on 2 Aug!

To give an idea about the timeline, the Figaro dropped off the cars in Port Huemene on 24 July. According to the Homeland Security paperwork it cleared customs the next day. The Wallenius website showed it "discharged" the night of the 24th, but never showed "delivered from" as some other threads have mentioned.
This afternoon, a week later, I get to pick it up at the dealer in San Diego!
Is it a bad sign that I have memorized my VIN by cutting-and-pasting it into the Wallenius cargo tracking page obsessively over the last week and a half?
P.S. Volvo's estimated delivery date was 14 August.
