Hi Everyone,

I'm contemplating putting the Moose (06 v50 t5 awd auto) on our local racetrack (Hampton Downs) next week.

I'm wondering if there are any known issues like oil starvation for example with these cars?

This track has a long high speed sweeper that has become notorious for killing engines. It's what cost me the engine in my racecar, which I still haven't fixed yet.

Other than the obvious wear and tear on tyres and brakes (new discs, pads (Hawk HPS plus), and fluid going in this weekend) what else do I need to look out for.

Here is a nice video of the f5000's going around there: https://youtu.be/gA-Z4rehUxc

Does NZ required speed limiters on the cars? In the US, almost all cars are limited to 130mph from the factory. Tunes can overwrite this very easily. But it could be pretty embarrassing to be cruising along and hit that mark. The car will appear to fall flat on its face and most likely won't let you get back onto the power until you slow down to 120mph.

It's fun racing cars with the speed limiter still enabled. They don't know what hit them. ;)

Well I can attest there is no oil control issues with normal road tyres (re002's), we maxed out at 1.2g's under brakes and 1.02g's laterally according to the Harry's Lap Timer and my Samsung Galaxy s5.

Brakes where a different story, had huge fad issues towards the end of the second stint out of 4. Fresh TRD brake fluid (rebranded motul rb600) was in the day before.

Good information.

What size are your front rotors- 320mm or 300?

This is going to sound strange but it could actually be the tires. If the stability control and active yaw were working hard that will definitely contribute to break heating.

could be...

From what i've just read it looks like that all gets turned off when the brake temp gets too high: http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2005/2005_XC90/05xc90_06b.htm

In the event of high brake temperature, "TRACTION CONTROL TEMPORARILY OFF" will be displayed in the text window.

It's because you're using the brakes heavily. The system deduces their temperature from the work they're measured to be doing, and when they are too hot it does not provide the traction control assist, nor the DSTC brake stability application. The warning appears to let you know this.It goes away after a little while? Normal.
Tom.
Stupid safety controls... I did have the DTSC off to start with, but you can't ever fully turn it off, and i didn't pull that F7 fuse... thinking about it now, i probably should have.

Just remember if you do on a track doing high speeds you wont have ABS. If you are not careful you could easily flat spot a tire. You will need to pay much closer attention and modulate the brakes yourself. The dynamics of the car will be different at the limit too.

My broken racecar doesn't have ABS, so thats not an issue.

Just didn't think of it at the time.
