Howdy tow eye officionados.
I just thought I'd share this little tidbit with you. Below is a picture of the eye that came with my car, and the one that I ordered later. They are the same part number. The two lengths are only interesting to me because I'm trying to get as much length as possible to keep my kayak tie-down ropes away from my bumper paint (we don't ALL have 400' kayaks like Adam). I was happy to see that the new one is longer. Anybody have an even longer one that they want to trade for my compact little stubby one?
(Hey, I warned you this would be arcane in the title, did I not?)

- Darell

It's all about length isn't it Darrell.
Seriously, if you aren't towing heavy loads, perhaps a regular eye-bolt would work. Any idea what the thread size is?

If it's all about length, then I lose to Adam by SEVERAL feet.
Yes, I thought about the "go to the hardware store and buy a $2 eyebolt" trick, but these things are 1) metric, and 2) HUGE. I haven't yet determined what the thread pitch or diameter is, but I realized early on that the chances of finding such a large metric eye-bolt in an American hardware store were slim to none.
- Darell

You know what they say about guys with big feet... big shoes. I may be 6'8" tall, but my nickname is... well, maybe I shouldn't say here -- rhymes with "mirth".
But back on topic: My original tow eye is the longer one -- Hey, I'm trying to stay on topic here. Do I need to use that tow eye to pull you out of the gutter? I have a matching pair, but no extras.
--Adam

Thanks George...but don't go through too much trouble.
These things also need to be "shoulder bolts" as sell as large and metric to really work right. I have a friend sending me another longer one, so I'm in pretty good shape. Just got back from using them for the first time, so I'd better download some pictures and see if I got any good ones!
- Darell
