Fatter tires? That's what im trying to do
I guess you could also take ur tranny to a shop and try to get them to fit a lsd in it, but that sounds painful, and cost prohibitive.

The LSD would be the most effective. Quaiffe makes one for our cars (I believe it's around $1800 though... plus install) for the GT and the MT.
There are ways you can beef up your sub frame in some cars.... not sure if any of them are applicable to ours.

Re: (mofolicious)

Welcome to FWD. My S40 was all over the place. Best thing to do is drive with TWO hands on the stearing wheel.
On a side note.
I let my buddy take my car for a test drive after I got all my tuning done (He drives a 500+HP STI), When he took off up my road the car jerked to the right really hard and damn near ran my car into a car parked on the street. He came back 10 min later and said, I forgot this was FWD, and damn this thing has alot of TQ stear.

Good, sport tires are probably the best bet. You'll always get some sort of orque steer in turbos though,

Re: (carreragt7)

I know this is a dumb question, but does the AWD version of the S40 really remove most of the torque steer? I know because of the lvl of weight on the front compared to the back it will have the tendency to let the front drift a bit more but in a straight line is the Haledex AWD setup remove a majority of it?

Re: (itsmeee)

It shouldnt really, im surprised any of you are experiencing it that bad, or maybe you think its worse than it really is. Ever since automakers started using intermediate shafts to keep the outter axles damn near the same dimensions most torque steer should have been eliminated including in our cars.
Ive been eye balling the quaife LSD but is a lot of money and not exactly necessary. Ive had a high HP FWD car and there are ways around traction issues lol.
The only thing the Haldex system does is engage the rear diff when it detects too much torque to the front wheels will cause it to slip. So to some degree it will provide better traction keeping the wheels from slipping which is the most common cause of loss of control, not necessarily torque steer though.

AWD will eliminate the tq steer. I can disable the AWD in my R and when I pushing it in FWD the wheel jerks to the right. In AWD, nothing.
Off topic, Sorry....
Itsmeee,
I didn't see you chime in in the Seattle GTG thread. You should check it out and try to make it down to Lynwood on July 12th.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=117483

No volvo yet I might bring my vr6 down and get the lay of the land though. Right now I'm just saving up money and I think this fall I'll be able to pick up an S40 T5 AWD MT. I still need to test a few other cars out, but I'm really leaning this way.

I've actually seen a few around. There was a beautiful looking one for $15.5 down in portland not to long ago. Actually I think there is at least one in the FS section right now. I've yet to drive one though, and I'm worried it might not be $10,000 better then my VR6

Re: (itsmeee)

If it was the black one it sold right away they just never took down the listing. I was eye balling a whole bunch and they all were either high mileage or way over priced. Just because its AWD doesnt mean the price should be 1/4 higher.

I'm just weary of FWD after how bad my SR20 powered Nissan was. My VR6 is crazy good though, I guess I really just need to drive an S40.
BTW how was your S40 this last winter here in Bellingham? My Nissan I couldn't even get down the street (kentucky st)

Re: (itsmeee)

Only had my S40 like a month i think lol. I had my 4 door integra i was daily driven this last winter which never made it out of the driveway on my bald ****ty zexius tires it had lol. The coupe integra wouldnt have done any better though.
This year im buying snow tires... shouldnt have any issues whatsoever. G-mans civic on blizzaks was beating awd subarus off the line in the snow so im not worried about FWD anymore lol.

These cars are relatively sensitive to it.
Tom.
