Just got off the phone with Volvo Cars OSD, and they just gave the car its VIN yesterday!
New scheduled completion date of March. 23.

Cool! Just envision this...your baby, your absolutely beautiful baby that you will pamper when it arrives...some time between March 24 and 29, it will go through an agonizingly torture session that would make you cringe!

OK, whay exactly is going to happen to my baby???

Why do you want to know? Your baby will be delivered to you in PRISTINE condition.

Have you ever had kids? Imagine all the perils he/she went through from the day of conception, trhough the first trimester and through the tortuous path down the birth canal until it finally came out! Yes, he/she went through "hell" until the head popped out but when that happene...aahhh, what a beauty!

Don't worry about your baby's trip to the delivery room, at Torslanda! Enjoy and treasure it when the lovely ladies hand you the umbilical cord, er, the keys!

cmy4X4............

I heard that they were experimenting with a new "natural" assmebly method at Torslanda. They play some very soft music...turn the lights down low..and quietly put all the parts on the floor and wait to see if the car will put itself together without an epideral!

Aren't they adopting the "quiet birth" a la Scientology?

Apparently, they tried the "under water" delivery method but all the sparks were a bit discouraging...

Magoon................Yes..but that is only used for special orders with a modified "Cruise" control system

When the first shipload of XC90's went down in teh English channel back in 02....they decided the underwater method was too costly!

It amazes me how quickly these threads get off topic.

I was just curious.

Come on, all was in jest!

Your car will go through Quality Control that entails stressing the engine and then evaluating it, run it rhough a very bumpy course an then evaluating the suspension plus the body for unwated stress and/or fractures and then going through a super high pressure car wash in order to detect any leaks.

Sorry if I steered your question from it's original intent! I guess it's a "car biz" thing....the getting "cute" I mean.
I repsect that buying a car is a big decision and I did not mean to make light of your interest in the QC portion of Volvo's assembly and delivery process....please accept my apology........... http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

No need for apologies, I found the responses amusing as well.
I was just commenting on how the conversation takes on a life of it's own. I had seen pictures of the ship that sank, and the salvage operation. If you looked closely, you could see the cars inside.

YES....14 of those were our cars!
Took us another 90-100 days to get everyones cars delivered. What a fiasco

Really? Any of those OSD's. What a bummer that would have been.
Was anything at saved. Maybe tires? I wonder how many Volvo's were on the ship.

Re: Torture Test????? (flybynight)

Kris...........

Volvo had not opened up OSD for the XC90's until the next spring/summer.
Nothing was saved...nothing at all!
Estimated 2300 Volvos (as I recall)..about 300-400 BMWs and @ 200-300 Saabs.

I am 110% positive that SOME parts have been recirculated in the markets around the world, by the salvage company.

If nothing else, the metal was most likely reprocessed by now and converted into a number of things, including new cars, etc.

Don't forget about the "test track" at OSD.

Do you mean the ~100 meter long track just outside the door? I wonder what they thought of when the constructed that.... Its a joke!

You are right. I only found it useful for bedding the brand new brakes.
