I know you must buy a tune either, Rica or IPD, to get the torque limiter removed, but why is there not a simpler and easier way of doing this? I rather not spend $1000 dollars for the whole tune, when my main concern is only the torque limiter for now.

Re: Torque Limtier!? (12188s60)

Because Volvo is concerned about the longevity of your transmission.

Re: Torque Limtier!? (12188s60)

Because the "torque limiter" is not an actual device. When we say "torque is limited" in first and second gears, and overall as well, what we are really saying is:
"The engine management computer will not allow the engine to produce levels of boost, throttle and timing necessary to produce the engine's full torque rating".
Remember that HP = torque * RPM / 5252, so you can get the full HP - the engine "releases" full timing, boost, etc. once the RPM's climb up.
This limits torque, limiting stress on the transmission.
It's all in the electronics, meaning it's all in the ECU. So in order to remove it, you have to tune the ECU...and whether you tune the ECU to bring a GT from "neutered" level up to Manual Trans level, or you take it to beyond that, there's no difference in labor and programming time. So you might as well go for the full monte.
