So I'm looking into buying a used 2004 or 2005 V70R. My understanding is that the 6 speed autobox was new for 2006. Was the 2005 also electronically torque limited to ~258 ft-lb in 2005 as it was in the 2004s?
If that's the case, then is there reason to favor the 05 over 04 except for the cosmetic changes? some change to the AWD system?
TIA,
Eric Lee
Monterey, CA

Re: torque-limited autobox (E34M5)

yes, 2005 auto trans had same limitation. The haldex AWD system was improved for '05 with increased processor speed, though frankly I've not heard that it makes an important difference. I think you are right, the cosmetic differences will be most obvious, though whether those are important or not is obviously subjective. Some think more of the "bugs" have been worked out of the 2005's--could be, but no data to back that up. Either way, strongly consider certified used or make sure you have an extended warranty. best wishes on shopping

Plus the 04s can not get the integrated sirious satellite radio (if thats important). That is only available on '05's and newer (as far as ive been told, anyway), and the interiors are pretty signifcantly different.

Not that significant.
Having said that, I'd love to get rid of my '04 cupholder. It SUCKS!
