I got a call about an hour later with the diagnosis: It appears that there is some chip which if not functioning will make the odometer/trip odometer not work. The part is coming in late tomorrow, and I will be able to pick up the cluster when I am finished with training on Wednesday morning. The total is $155, and for the peace of mind a functioning odometer will give me I am not concerned One quick question: I took the battery out of the car, just to be safe, but when I get the cluster back should I first reinstall the cluster, then install the battery, or the other way around-or does it not matter? Have a splendid evening one and all

Re: Took the speedo cluster in to the shop this morning..... (1sciroccofahrer)

put it all back together then attach the battery, you are less likely to fry anything that way. glad to hear its all getting fixed!

Re: Took the speedo cluster in to the shop this morning..... (1sciroccofahrer)

Got the cluster back late this morning, went about reinstalling it, connected the battery, and low and behold the odometer and trip odometer were working once again The guy at the speedo shop told me that it probable that the chip was fried over time by the tachmeter cable(wire) being attached to the back of the cluster-without a tachmeter being present. So I got some electrical tape and taped up the end of the wire. I am confident that the tachmeter cable was attached when I initially pulled the cluster, but now I am the wiser thanks to the guy at the shop. Have a wonderful evening one and all

Congrats, I read your previous posts, you must have taken that cluster out a 100 times. If you feel like doing that again let me know

Re: Took the speedo cluster in to the shop this morning..... (dagnelson)

Thanks Dagnelson for the positive words! I was so relieved when I got the cluster back from the shop, and it worked. I now feel like quite the expert when it comes to taking out 240 instrument clusters-so much that I had no problem tackling the more complex removal/installation of my parents 850 instrument cluster when one of the backround lights went out. Just make sure to play it safe and disconnect the (-) battery cable first. Have a splendid evening one and all
