Too much exhaust! -- UPDATED (but not anymore!)

I am in the middle of Evolving my car and need some advise:

I have installed sport (not advanced) exhaust and chip from Evolve and will be adding the downpipe on Tuesday (if the mechanics come off of strike). I thought that I'd get used to the exhaust note, but it is too omnipresent for me. The novelty of the gurgle has worn off and the volume (with the exception of when I am cruising @3000 rpm's) is too loud.

If it was just me in the car, it might be passable. However, as a salesguy, I have clients in my car occasionally and do not feel comfortable with what the sound projects.

If there was a middle ground I'd be happy. Any recommendations?

It sounded like a good idea at the time....

As an alternative, you might want to consider the DP with the stock exhaust and center resonator removed (see the JRL mod thread ) -- I think Jim is or was running that setup and was happy with the sound. I drove his car when I took delivery of my '06, but I'm not sure what his setup was on Dec 30th '05 -- I'm sure he'll comment.

You drove it then with a TME downpipe and a TME exhaust, a very similar sound to MY center resonator removal.
In fact a downpipe and the center resonator removal sounds
"nicer" IMO
Yannis drove it that waya couple of years ago and said he never heard a Volvo sound so good

You might check in with a couple of guys from this area (MN) who have changed their exhausts.

I don't know if they have or are willing to part with it, but it's worth checking.

I had a similar problem after installing a Heico dual exhaust system on my car - the resonator was ridiculously loud.

Solution - lined the interior (floor/firewall/doors) and trunk with viscoelastic damper. Now the noise is reduced to below stock levels.

Here is what I used - takes forever to install (I took about 20 hrs over 2 weeks to get it all done) but the result is amazing.

Exactly the same as dynamat - spec sheets only differ by one Decible.
The other bonus is that it is much lighter weight than the other two, took just over 20lbs of it to do the whole car.

It makes the stereo sound far better too which is a nice bonus once the exhaust sound is reduced.

excellent communication. Thank you!

Where does one get Magnaflow parts?

JR

Talk to Brain at this place. I have used them and they do great work. My Son had a custom exhaust done with Magnaflow parts there also.

i'd say get the dp installed. for some reason, i think adding the dp makes the car quieter.

if that still doesn't work, go wtih the newer updated resonator or the straight pipe.

frankhoffy and R-Rated both have the dp AND the straight pipe and seem to really like the sound level.

i have the dp and the "advanced" exhaust..which has the updated/longer resonator. to me, it's VERY quiet. even under WOT, it's not very loud in the cabin, and that off throttle resonation is gone. it's not as quiet as stock, but for a modded car, it's pretty quiet and very livable for daily driving and trips.

i'd say get the dp on, drive it , and see if the sound/volume changes. then if you still don't like it, try another center piece section.

Re: (23109VC)

As the mechanic's strike here is over, the dp (and everything else) is on. The sound level concerne that I had is abated, as it sound completely different with the dp installed. It's very "grumbly" right underneath me, which I'll take over the previous "tuner" note that was emmitting from the exhaust, without the dp.

BTW, the sway bars are installed and are solid. Very pleased.
