Well tonight after our GTG, Matt and I decided to do a 30-70mph roll on to see which 850 had the better setup.
My car is our 850R with IPD ECU and IPD exhaust. Matt's is an 850 Turbo with the mystery ECU upgrade and a modified wastegate (I think he said three turns).
As I figured, at start Matt had the R. His pulled hard in the beginning, probably due largely to the wastegate. Once I built up revs, the R kind of hung there behind him, but by then he had at least a car length. At 70ish we backed off.

It was cool to watch...my 262C couldn't hang, but looked good from behind. Matt's car hauled! Very surprising.
BTW the meet was awesome, more people from the DC area need to come to these things!
Rob

I was so far back when you started since I was last in line that I couldn't tell who was who. I was looking for my exit and trying to watch the race at the same time, so I missed the exit (oh well).
Rob, I pretty much knew where I needed to go, but I didn't know where I was so I was just going to turn around and get back on 370 the way I came, which is what I did and then I knew where I was going again.
George, check out IPD's website about the sport springs on sale for $224, and that's even for the wagon springs (reg-$280). I paid $200 for my Jamex spings last January, and they were used. They're getting hard to come by, so I would probably go for the IPD springs as long as the sale is on. Another thing is that the IPD springs won't lower the front as much, which may be good because I've actually scraped the exhaust/downpipe when going over speed bumps too fast (I was going slow, but not slow enough).
Bilsteins are great for handling, but Boge Turbo Gas also work with lowering springs, and they cost quite a bit less. The ride quality will probably be slightly better with the Boge Turbo Gas as well. I got my shocks for $289 from carparts.com using a first time buyer coupon from importhookup.com. I don't know if that coupon is ever offered anymore (33% off up to $100), and carparts.com was recently taken over by JC Whitney. Here are the prices from shox.com (per set of 4, and this was from Oct. 2000 so they may have changed):
Koni: $389
Bilstein: $349
Tokico: $209
Boge Turbo Gas: $189
IPD's price for the Bilsteins: $536!!
I had a great time and I can't believe more people didn't show up. I bet the holiday weekend had something to do with that, but the weather couldn't have been better! Maybe in another month or two I'll have my fender fixed, just in time for another GTG.

Michael, thanks for the help with the suspension. I'll probably go with the IPD springs.
Rob, I agree on the more people thing. I'm not sure, but I guess it'd probably be the last minute nature of this get together.
As for the roll with Matt, it surprised me too. He got that jump in the beginning, and then I just kind of hung there off his back end. The only thing I can ascertain is that it was his wastegate mod.

Hehe..yeah, that was a fun race between you guys. I couldn't believe Matt's 190K+ miles 850 could do so well. No exhaust upgrade, just the mystery ECU with few tweaks at the wastegate.
I think his ECU will have more to do with the outcome.
Yeah..even though not many people showed up, but it was still cool to just hang out with the guys again. I think we just called for the GTG a bit too late; plus, most of the people already had plan for this long weekend.
I’m almost curious how that Manassas scene is like, it’d be cool to have a cruise down there one of these days. Maybe after George gets back from Germany or something.
Let's see, maybe we can do that Skyline Drive cruise in Octobor if you guys are game for that.
May I beg you guys for a GTG during early November? I will be taking my CPA exam in Nov. 8, 9 in Deleware, and won't be heading back to HK until the 15th, so it would be awesome if it can be done.
Kai, is the C70 ready yet? I still haven't got a chance to see it!! Have you considered getting a bigger intercooler? My car is in the shop getting a bigger ARC top mount intercooler and bigger sway bars, can't wait!

Terrence,
Heeeyyy, buddy...you are online again~
Sure, I think the guys wouldn't mind another quick GTG. Maybe I will have Mark(my cousin) to come down with the 850.
It seems like we have a GTG almost every month now.
Yeah, I did think about the bigger intercooler, but not now. I doubt I will have any $$$ left after I pick up the car. Trust me, there are still few things I want to finish up before I can say the car is 'complete.'
Like the intake thingy we had talked about before, intercooler, TB, and maybe water injection.....but I don't think I will be doing any of these in another year or so.
Let me know when you need a place to stay during your CPA exam.

Wow! What a MAD week. Busy at work so I couldn't reply to the posts. I tell you one thing for sure, I did not expect to pull that much off of the start. I had to ask if I had jumped the start or not once I had the chance. George gave me a good run for the money though, no doubt! I would love to take both cars to the track and run them before and after the wastegate adjustments. (Maybe the ECU had a bit to do with it as well?) If interested, I will do the wastegate adjustment next time we meet up. It will only take a few moments and will make some difference. Most people though do not say it makes too much difference. Anyhow, thanks George for letting me finally rest my mind about the mods effect on the car. I guess even though she is going to have 200K miles on the clock before next month, it runs well. Damn, Volvo really can make one hell of a car!
Prospero

We should try to set a date/time for a November GTG as soon as possible so we can spread the word and get some more people to show up. I would hope to see at least 20 cars and at least one pre-240 model next time.

BOO~~
More RWD~! C'mon Matt, even George is probably going to switch side soon. I think the RWD is probably going to be more fashionable now.
Heck, I could still be driving the 240 in Nov if those numbnuts don't get their acts straight.

Lots of old cool iron that is in great shape up here, in the local club sometimes my car is the minority, but I am doing my best to change that with some new people. A Nov GTG, snow is coming men, get the sleds out! As soon as I get back from Florida mid Oct the car will go away sleepytime up on the hoist to be worked on over the winter, and the Artic Cat will awake!

Yeah, I think we should try to do another GTG in mid Oct or something. That way maybe Sean and other guys can swing by after (or before) the FL show.
Do you guys have more detail about the FL show? I think Charles Linden might want to show up.

That 240 will be a tank on 4 snows with some sand bags in the rear!

First of all our thoughts are with all of you after the shocking news of today, I hope you and all your family and friends are well.

Another cool pic, where the H E double hockey sticks do you find these. I have yet to harness the pic power of the net. I will be leaving the Sat the 29th and hooking up with Matt in Richmond VA if he goes on the Sun. I will be coming back the weekend of the 13th&14th, so a Sun the 14th event would be cool!
For the show in FLA it is Oct 5-7th at the Renaissance World Gate Hotel in Kissimmee FLA. The address for the meet is
VCOA Meet East 2001
444 South Olden Avenue
Trenton,NJ 08629-1727
Sorry no phone number, registration includes a Fri night reception, Sat lunch, swap meet/vendors, tech sessions, Sat concours, sat awards banquet, Sun breakfast and driving events.
Michael, interesting picture...I've never thought these cars will do that well. I think I just had some very bad tires last time when I spun out in the rain. Or just not enough weight in the back.
Sean, it was indeed a very shocking and sad news...still have hard time believing it. All happened too sudden...
So, guess you are very serious about going down to FL, huh?

Yep, I will still go, the last thing we can let these people do is impact our lives any further than the have allready. Living in fear of another event like this will stop alot of people from doing alot of things but we must remain strong and hard justice will come for those who did this. I hope my country will get behind yours big time and hunt them down, I have friends that have close family that worked in the towers and are still missing.
This is an attack on the freedom of all of us, I tell you they will not stop me or our countries!
Sean.
Sometimes it starts by looking for a specific picture, or just looking at stuff on a site like volvonet.org/tpc. Sometimes one picture leads to a personal site, which have links to more sites with more Volvo pictures. That picture above is from a Swedish site that sells performance parts, KG Tuning.
Here's a crude site that I put together a while back, which shows some Volvo rally cars (mostly 240s, but a 122 and 140 too).
Rally pics
Usually the best sites are European, and not always Swedish. I've found some interesting pics/info on Dannish, Finnish, Dutch, and English(UK) sites, in addition to a few Swedish sites.

It is just still a bit hard for most of the people around the world to digest. Even though I don't know any of these who died in this incident...I still feel very bad for my fellow human beings.
Can't believe some people were looking at this as some sorta sci-fi movie as it was happening.
I'm not really for revenge to the degree of a WW III scale, but they'd better nail the bastard who was in charge of this carnage. I know more killing is probably not the way out; however, I do think proper actions should be taken to ensure everyone eles' lives.
We cannot let these people change our lives, but we have to be more cautious now...can't take freedom for granted anymore.
