To the brilliant mrg_E:
I'm an unlucky (?) owner of an XC90 that I received 3 days prior to hearing that the facelifted models now available would have carried an AUX-IN plug for my iPod
Would you happen to have a module I could ask a professional installer to implement in order to elegantly hook up my iPod so that the controls would be via the HarmanKardon Drive+Play head unit? In such a case there is no need for me to control my iPod through the head unit in the dashboard. Your fully specced unit would thus have almost "too much" features for my need, I guess.
Also, my problem is my DIY skills are at zero, so I'd just take whatever I can get from you and drop it to the shop that get's to set up the HK gizmos. Do you think an audio installer with "general, reasonable" knowhow can figure out the propoer way to hook your black box?
Keep up the ***brilliant*** work! By the looks of it, you have a huge following - and deservedly so!

Currently there are no integration solutions available other than an FM modulator and apart from what Volvo has to offer.
Now, about your question: it is an interesting thought to hook up a drive & play and there are ways to get it connected. The way I would try to do it:
1) First, pressure your dealer to get an AUX-input, either by adding a module (which I assume it is) or by exchanging the HU (I'm not sure how this AUX is available). You probably need to pay for it, but that depends on how good you are at talking
2) Second, I'd purchase the drive & play, take it apart and bypass the FM modulator. The audio lines that come from the iPod need to be split off and redirected to the AUX input of your HU. This is doable, since the audio lines from the iPod can be used directly to connect to the AUX input. It is only a matter of getting the right wires and splice them off into the AUX input. The splicing can be done in the cable from iPod to the drive & play unit, or inside the drive & play unit itself. The drive & play will still continue to work, since iPod communication is done with different wires inside the iPod cable (which of course shouldn't be touched)
If you're not technical at all, this may be a problem. Good installers are able to do this trick, but many of them are only capable of connecting wires together and don't want to hack into cables or units. Try to explain what you like and you should be able to pick out the right installer.
However, the AUX input on the HU is essential for good sound, otherwise you'll be stuck with the FM modulator.
