Hi all:
My 18 month old S60 is in need of new tires (yeah, I know.. I'm hard on the rubber).
I wasn't all that thrilled with the stock Pirelli's which came woth the 17" wheels.
I'm thinking about getting Michilan Pilot Sport A/S tires.
They're a little spendy, but I think the tire will make a HUGE difference in handling on the already fabulous S60 w/DSTC.
Has anyone had any experience with the S60 and this tire? How about other tires such as a better quality Pirelli, or Bridgestone?
- matthewk <--- had to register again, I can't seem to get my password to work with my old username.

Re: Tires on a T5 S60? (Mr. T5)

There have been reports that the Pilot Sport A/S are larger in OD than other tires of the exact same size so rubbing may be a problem.
Pat

That would certainaly fall into the "not good" catagory.
Do you know of any way I might confirm these reports of scraping?
- matthewk

When I picked up my 02 T5, I swapped the P7s with a tire that I know well and happens to be cheap, the Dunlop SP8000 and I noticed that it transformed the car's ride - more nervous, in a good way as far as better reactions to steering input, quieter and absolutely better braking.
Check it out as it also looks great on the rim, there is slight rubbing when performing a U-turn but that is nothing to serious.

OK... I ended up getting the Michilen Sport Prima (or something like that)...
I have to say... thse tires are amazing... ther is a HUGE difference in the handling and breaking of the car.
There is no tire rub (as was reported)... in fact even in sharp U-Turns, when the stock Pirelli's would rub... these tires do not.
I'm thrilled... it's like driving a new car!
- matthewk

The stock Pirellis are not suitable for any type of spirited driving. I felt the same way you do when I swapped out my original tires for some Kumho Ecsta 712s. The difference was night and day. Congrats.
