If 7,5-8" I'd take 225/40 R18, as these are most common.

8" = 8 x 2,54 = 20,32 = 203,2 mm so a 225 (225 mm) tire would be absolutely fine. If 8.5" it would be kind of close, as the rims would be 215.9 mm wide. Still the tire is wider than the rim.

215/45 R18 is a stupid and rather rare size. Typical for Volvo. And if you take that size (215...), you'd need/require the tachometer update... With 225/40 R18 you don't.

Just as another option, I'm running 225/45/18 and am enjoying the added sidewall height for better rim protection, less fender gap, and overall a much smoother ride. However, my speedo is off, but that doesn't bother me.

If it did, ask for the 215/45 R18 software. That should make it right again within a few (1-2) mph.

225/40-18 is technically correct, I would hesitate to do a 45 profile, only because it would add some unnecessary height. Same with 215/45. You could also do 255/35-18, depending on width and offset. These would be the same height, and the extra width would be great for cornering. I ran these on another car with the same OE size tire, and the car didn't weight enough to break the tires loose.

I have the OEM Atreus, 18x7.5 and while people are correct that you get more height, I am fine with it since I wanted less gap and more comfort. The 40 profile was harsh, and stepping to the 45 gave me more ride comfort!
