The noise should subside after a thousand miles or so (if it is caused by uneven wear). If it is caused by some other problem (broken belt, etc) it will not subside. I had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S that had about 30K miles on them and two of them were so loud it was unbearable. I just had to bite the bullet and replace the set of 4. They were THAT loud. I figure they may have had 5-8K miles remaining on them. <p>As for AWD damage. You will probably be fine as long as your car has Haldex AWD ('03 or newer, I think).
