Over the past 4k miles (2-3 months), i have noticed loud tire noise from the rear. During the past 4k miles, the tires have been rotated (around 1.5-2k miles ago). Over the weekend i topped all 4 off with air, to equal 36 psi or so.

I dont want to point blame at the pirelli's just yet; does anyone have an idea what could be causing this noise? Unbalanced wheels? cold weather? etc

Tires = pirelli pzero nero 225/45-17, about 8 months old, approx 8-9k total accumulation.

no springs, good, struts have a habit of eating the inside of the tire, feel the inside of the tires and see if you can feel that they are cupped, if so you can spin the Neros on the rim inside out, and get yourself a good 4 wheel lifetime allignment and check it every year. If you are really not into hanging turns, get the camber close to zero and since this type of stut cant take crash bolts you would need to slot the sturt mounts or do other magic like sliding around the subframe (only can balance it out).

i think there might be some cupping on the outside edge of the rear tires due to the camber. I measured both rears, and the outside tread is
1-1.5mm less than the middle and inside.

Does this sound right, i would have assumed the inside tread would be fading quicker than the outside based on our camber?

Get the alignment checked ASAP. Although if you hear noise it may already be too late.

My V50 ate the OEN tires in less than 12,000 KM. They became so noisy it was unbearable. Started out as a small wha hwha wha sound when slowing for corners. 3 dealer visits later they still told me we don't hear anything. On the 4th with the service manager they thought it was bearings. Turned out the alignment was way outta spec. I had to shell out 50% of cost of new tires .

The camber needed to be adjusted less than a month later. Now its out of alignment agin. I don't drive hard have any mods or aim for potholes or anything.

Your description is consistent with what is called cupping, or heel/toe wear and is not uncommon, but generallly is worse on the drive positions, but could happen on the rears, maybe, with larger cambers??. It tends to max out around 4-8k miles. It can get noisy, depending on the tires. It does seem a little out of place to be tires if they have been on the rear position. If the fronts are cupped differently then rotation should change the noise (it could be worse! - at least for a while).
