I read everything in the archives. If anyone knows of chains that accomodate an R with 18" wheels I'd love to hear about them asap.
I'm driving from San Francisco to Chicago in a 2005 titanium 6 speed with nav in about a week and will be crossing the mountains on summer tires
please help if you have info
cheers

Re: TIRE CHAINS on an R (kipp)

If I were making that trip at this time of year, I'd switch to winter tires or at the very least some very good A/S tires.
The summer tires (and especially the P-Zero Rossos) will get hard & slippery when they get cold. Think about the cost of good tires for the trip vs. an accident which wrecks your car New tires sounds like a good investment to me, and you'll need them in Chicago if you are going to live in that area.
Sounds like this may be your solution, available from us (cheaper) or your local dealership.

The advantage of this type of chain is that it is much easier to fit in the dark or when the car has become stuck. Re: (George @ ViVA)

Just go to an auto store in San Fran and pick up a set of cables that fit your tire size. Here in the Sierra's it is warming up and I, personally, wouldn't put on a set of snow tires for a partial cross country trip this time of year. oclv

Yeah, how much are those puppies? I'm leaning in this direction:
http://www.vulcantire.com/chainz6_c.htm
I wonder if these will have sufficient clearance. Also, perhaps they'll scratch the piss outta the pegs?
