That may be the correct explanation, but I have always thought it was because of the slope of the windshield combined with the relatively low roof where it meets the glass. I'm only 6'0", but when I'm sitting up straight I'm looking out of the windshield where the tint would normally be. I suspect that having the tint in front of the driver, in the line of sight, might be a bad idea.
