Re: TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT (wrodri54)

Here's a good starting point.
http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ic/ic60326.htm
I'm going to do this in the next two weeks, and the biggest problem is getting the belt off around the crank pulley. I've read that there is a housing below the crank pulley, and it has 2 10mm bolts that can be removed and the bracket moves and then you can get the belt around the pulley without removing it. Removing the pulley takes a 30mm socket, and almost certainly an impact wrench. Have wrench, but not enough air pressure or volume to accomplish the task. That's why I looked for ways to get the belt around the pulley without removing the pulley.

Re: TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT (wizzard_al)

It's really not that expensive to have done (compared to a 6 cyl Audi/VW). By the time you buy all the special tools you'll need you should just find a good independent shop and let them do it. You'll also kick yourself if you make even a small mistake -- your engine (and wallet) depend upon it

I did it on my s80 about a month ago, I HIGHLY suggest you bring it to your dealer.

not to be rude...but if you are asking about it, you should probably leave it up to a volvo mechanic, or the dealer.
its a non-forgiving repair job.

autoweb actually states $415 for the repair (T&M) but I have found that they underestimate a little bit sometimes.

Re: TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT (wrodri54)

I replaced mine about 3 months ago in my home garage. It took 2-3 hours but there wasn't anything particularly difficult about it. I am not a master mechanic or anything, but I have changed timing belts on other cars. By comparison the S60 seemed pretty easy. I DO have an impact wrench and socket that fits, though. That took care of the hardest part.
About a month ago I changed the water pump and timing belt on a Lexus SC400 V-8. THAT WAS AWFUL.
