HI i was wondering if anyone knows if the GLE engine from an 850 is interference or not???? i know all the 850's in america are 20 vavle, mine only has 10 and ive heard that the 10 vavle engines merely just stop while the 20 vavle engines cost $$$$$ if belt breaks. Any truth to the 10 vavle not getting damaged?? http://www.drive.com.au/editor...&vf=1...... thats where i heard it from , cheers and thanks for help.

Don't know about the 10 valve, but think it's the same as the 20...which will most definitely break inside engine components if the Timing Belt breaks. From what I understand, all FWD and AWD Volvo's have interference engines.

Bad news Axlrose,
Your motor has a head on it that has half the valves. The valves in your motor are bigger and will hit the top of the piston. Both 10 valve and 20 engines will be spendy to fix.
The only OHV motor that I have ever worked on that did not require head work of some kind is the Ford Pinto engine.
