Alright, I might be crazy, but I definitely noticed a thumping sound from behind the passenger side wheel well when walking around my car yesterday at idle. It sounded like something knocking into the plastic shroud at about the same speed as the engine, and would cycle on and off. Air conditioning was not on at the time. Is there anything up there that could be knocking around? The sound is not noticeable inside the car or even on the driver's side. Even under the hood it's less noticeable.

Did you check for bodies? Rodents? Birds? Iguanas?
For reference: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum...oblem/

The service rep at the dealer got all huffy and said it was the aftermarket stabilizer bars making noise (I'm guessing he meant they were thumping against something, not spontaneously making noise at a stand still). Obviously they weren't going anywhere near it. Anyone else had any issues with IPD sway bars thumping against something? The exhaust maybe?

Yup, but I understand its just the suspension. I recall there being lengthly heated discussions about it when the R first came out. IRC, volvo continues to say that there is no fix. But, I'm sure someone on SS has a solution, short of selling the car.

Re: Thumping from behind passenger wheel well (PM)

Well a suspension thumping/clunking is much different than this. I've already been down that road with the dealer. This started happening after I put the IPD sways on, and it's not audible inside the car, but outside the car, at a stop, with the engine idling.

Maybe something got knocked lose on a pothole?
Good news is, if you can hear it while idling at a stop, then jack up the car, get under it and follow the noise (carefully).
