Throttle Body for 850's?

860 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  fhdt5r
Can anybody tell me who makes a big bore throttle body for an 850? I read a post from somebody who installed one, but I can't remember who sells them.
Thanks

I think Eastern Aerospace & SPG9 have them. There might be others. I think the money could be better spent in other areas unless you've already done a bunch of mods to the engine and suspension.
Get the one from SPG9, it's 80 bucks cheaper, and the work is all hand finished and knifedged on the inlet and outlet.
I bought mine and it totally makes a difference, especially with an open element or K&N intake, once you get the exhaust on there, the car is a beast!!!!

Hmm..mine is a monster than.
j/k j/k....

Well, I'm getting my cold air intake w/ new intake pipe done today. The IC pipe w/ BOV across the engine is now relocated...the battery is also relocated, no more air box.

For now, it's just a new long pipe all the way from the turbo to the bottom front of the engine bay, right next to the radiator.

When I take the car to get a better looking fabrication done for the "battery enclosure" along with the custom JL 10 inch W7, I will either make heat shield thingy I've been talking about or let them fab it for me, if I'm not too ambitious.

Then, I'll call SPG9 and ask them if they want to help out on the TB deal, I'm interested in finding the gain from dyno testing for them. I mean c'mon if there are people using EA's and helped, I'm sure any other brand will do the trick just as well if not better.

Could somebody post a link to SPG9?

Kai, if you are doing it reasonably soon, let me know. If I haven't run the article yet, you and I could always meet up for another engine shot and I could include it in the article, which would give them more exposure.

George
When would I want to start thinking about upgrading the TB? With the plans of upgrading the exhaust and ecu, is it necessary to upgrade the TB as well? Or is this just another enhancement to do to the engine?

Good idea, George! Thanks~~ This should help quite a lot. Maybe we can include an article about the Altered Atomsphere Motorsports guys, too.

We can probably have one additional section where we can do a before/after dyno result from adding the throttle body. The TB will probably be sponsored (or I'm hoping partially sponsored) by SPG9 if they want their products to be known. One can easily make a good publicity from an article like this.

I really have good experience with the AAM guys, they are much more professional. AND THEY ACTUALLY CARE!! I wouldn't mind putting in few good words for them, or even give them most of the credit for my upgrades. They just simply have, in no comparison, much better customer service than EIP. They are able to tell you the most updated status of the project, and try to forecast when they can deliver the car accurately.

Too many details to be talked about here before I get off the topic again.

But I think a dyno test result for different intake system would not be all that possible since I don't plan on putting everything back just for a dyno test.

The throttle body upgrade comparison is very possible, though.

Thanks again, George....I thought about that before, but didn't know if that was OK with you.

Does SPG-9 still offer a throttle body for Volvo? I checked their web site, but didn't see anything.

If you were able to get in their sites, then I guess they are still in business. If so, they should be still selling it.
You have to call Dave
He owns the company, but does the work on his own.
Try calling SPG9, and they'll tell you where to get a hold of him.
The company is kind of in transition, but if we buy more volvo products, we may be able to get dave into making more volvo only parts!!!!
We should talk to him about fabing out some downpipes and full exhausts in full mandrel bent 2.5 and 3" eh?
