I am looking to pick up an R and just wanted to know from all you R owners' previous experience with the car and how important is the warranty on this car. I have asked several people already but you can never get too many opinions especially with people who have experience. Please feel free to pitch in as much as you want. Thank you!
Is a 2004 S60R with no warranty worth the investment?

Need more details. Miles, service history, price?
A 2004 with 20,000 miles, all service records for $14,000 is MUCH different than a 2004 with 80,000 miles, no service records and a $12,000 price tag.

Its 61k Miles Serviced every 5k miles Seems well taken care of. Owner has records of all servicing and receipts I checked carfax and every servicing was a reported service to carfax which only makes it more 'official' I guess.
Price - 13k
I have not checked out the car in person will have someone doing that later tonight.

Re: Thoughts of a 2004 S60R out of warranty (dizzyd89)

Depends on the R. I bought my '04 with no warranty but bought it from a dealership that I know and trust (family friends) and had another dealership I trust inspect it and it had every scheduled service documented in the book done at the dealership I had the inspection done at. It had 73k on it when I bought it and I've had 9k trouble free miles so far.
I also got a low enough price that if I had to spend a couple grand on a major service item, it would suck, but I could withstand the hit.
I guess it all depends on how much risk you're willing to take and whether or not you can fund a major repair bill if one shows up in the future.

As another poster mentioned, have it inspected at a R competent Volvo dealer (good luck finding one though). No need to list the usual things to look for.......yet again.

I baby the car and would say that 70% of those miles are highway. The tranny was replaced around 22K miles. So, even with a properly maintained car with low miles, it is all luck of the draw with early Rs. Get a warranty.

If you want one under warranty, keep checking carmax's website for a 05 titanium/nordkap, auto with 30K miles and a IPD grill. I traded it last week and its CPO until 5-20-11
It needs a LF wheel bearing and a turn signal stalk but its all covered under CPO.
