I'm about to go 18" with stock suspension and am wondering what to expect in terms of tire life...looking for a durable tire over performance as it's a daily driver. I know on my A4, the front inner edges went to hell in like 20K

Re: (Seven)

I have 225/40/18
and I have had them on for just under 3k miles and about 25% tread left. Crap, I thought it was the tires?

I have 235/35/R19
Seems to be wearing out slowly. I also only do city driving. Highway driving will probably wear tires out a lot more. I can see the inner tire wears out more noticeably, but there is nothing you can do about that. Just rotate them every service.

I think your alignment and driving will have more to do with tire wear than the size. Look into adjustable rear upper control arms if your camber is more than 1.5 degrees or so if you care more about wear than handling.
I had 205/50/17s on before I got 225/40/18s and the 17s are worse for wear. They're done after 12 months of use (two winters) and my 225s are still pretty good after 11 months. I noticed the rears were wearing out faster than the fronts with my 225s so I assume it was the same with the 205s. I was good doing rotations often.
(The 205/50/17s are goodyear eagle F1 all season, the 225/40/18s are bridgestone pole position RE050A)

Re: Those of you with 225 or wider tires...do you have major wear issues? (Veefifty T5AWD)

Just Tweak Your Alignment Settings to Allow for the Added Rolling -Drag-
Wider Tires are just going to have more Rolling Resistance and Hence the Faster You Go - there will be some Flex in the Bushings - This doesn't take into account Lowering .
Example: on My Old T-Bird - I went from Stocker's - 15" Inch 215's - to -
245/50/17's - I didn't Change the Alignment @ All - Left at Factory Settings.
Going Plus + 2 the Wheel and Tires Would Start Hopping around 75MPH
Had to Tweak Toe and Tried to Dial in Little more Caster .
