I got a quote from WarrantyDirect.com for $1824 for my R with the following :
1: power train only.
2: $100 deductible
3: 8 days of rental car per year.
4: 4 year (that's 4 additional years) 100k (that's when speedometer reads)
what do you think? Anyone deal with WarrantyDirect.com before? also, I heard California law prohibits internet selling of re-insurances such as extended warranties, is this true?
any recommendation for other extended warranty companies in SoCal area?
thanks
Re: third-party extended warranty information needed (stevectsai)

Steve, I've tinkered around with them, got a bid, etc, but haven't purchased anything from them. I'm planning on comparing to what Volvo might offer when the time comes--have you already checked that out?
Ken

Re: third-party extended warranty information needed (kenschel)

I've asked Volvo as well, but the plan would cost 2200 for 6 year 100k.
I believe some folks here getting their R quoted for about 2k even... i'm not sure about the deductibles though.

Re: third-party extended warranty information needed (stevectsai)

When I was looking to purchase a 2003 Volvo, I asked my local Volvo repair shop about warrantees and they had some that they preferred to deal with. Check your local repair shop and see which ones they like the most - the ones that cover the most without hassle. I seem to recall they liked AAA.

As a former Warranty Gold customer (who got more than his money back in repairs in about 1 year on a '99 S80 T6) I highly recommend Volvo's plan. It's more expensive but at least you won't have to worry about them going belly up.

Re: third-party extended warranty information needed (R Salesman)

I have to agree w/ Lee, $1800 for powertrain is a waste of money.
The VIP warranty is a much better bet, if you can get it.

Re: third-party extended warranty information needed (stevectsai)

I know there are a few dealers here that sell the VIP plan with a decent discount. I believe prices went up in Janaury '06, but last year I bought a 7/75k from Yannis for about 40% off retail. Keep in mind my car is NA and FWD. I think there are other dealers on SS selling discounted VIP plans as well but I had a very good experience with Stillman Volvo.
Good luck.

Maybe it is time to try to get a group buy again. Yannis was helpful in getting that setup last year. I bought it and paid substantially less than price quote here, including the wheel package.
Bob??? Lee???

Of course I don't know if Stillman will keep to that schedule (or even run the promotion regularly) now that Yannis is enjoying SoCal.
I also remember that interest was overwhelming.

Re: third-party extended warranty information needed (stevectsai)

I purchased 4 years of coverage, 60,000 miles total on odometer for our Boxtser just prior to the factory warranty expiring via Warranty Direct. The plan I selected covers everything covered under the factory warranty with the exception of radio/nav. With a 0$ deductible, the cost was $2000. With 500 up front, and the balance paid in 10 $150 payments. I have had to use it only once, for a minor repair, and had no problems at all with them. I believe that with the Volvo plan you will be limited to 3 years beyond the factory warranty, whereas with Warranty direct, up to 4 years is possible. Of course, if mileage is the limiting factor, then the number of years is not relevant. I would agree with others that the only warranty worth having is one with zero deductible, and 'bumper to bumper' coverage. The net increase in cost from $100 to $0 deductilble will be made up with just a couple visits to the dealer.
Your quote for the lower level of coverage seems high, but I am guessing that it is beacuse of the 100,000 mileage limit.
Here are the exclusions for the Volvo Total Care Plan:
1. Mechanical: Adjustments and Cleaning, Battery and Cables, Belts and Hoses, Brakes (Front and Rear Discs and Pads, and Hubs and Parking Brake Linings), Exhaust Systems (including Catalytic Converter), Filters, Fluids (except in conjunction with a covered repair), Lights (Bulbs, Sealed Beam and Lenses), Lubricants, Manual Clutch Assembly, Shock Absorbers, Spark Plugs and Wires, Squeaks and Rattles, Tires, Tune-up, Wheel Balance and Alignment, Wiper Blades, Coolant and Wheel Studs.

2. Exterior: Adjustments (Glass and Body Parts), Bright Metal, Bumpers, Glass, Moldings, Paint, Rust, Sheet Metal, Side View Mirror(s) (Glass and Housing), Water Leaks, Wheel Covers and Ornaments, Wind Noise, Weatherstrips, Door Handles, Wheels and Outside Ornamentation.

3. Interior: Carpet, Rearview Mirror (Glass and Housing), Trim, Upholstery, Door and Window Handles, Dash Pad, Knobs, Clock, Buttons and Safety Restraint Systems
and for the Warranty Direct Luxury Care Plus:
Battery; shock absorbers; manual transmission clutch assembly; friction clutch disc & pressure plate; throwout bearing; manual and hydraulic linkages; safety restraint systems; glass; lenses; sealed beams; bulbs; brake rotors & drums; TV/video game systems; weather strips; exterior body parts/ornamentation; paint; upholstery & carpet; tires; wheels/rims; exhaust system.
Maintenance services and parts described in your vehicle's owner's manual as supplied by the manufacturer. (i.e. oil changes, tune-ups, brake pads, belts, hoses and spark plugs)

I know that there are mileage breaks in the pricing, so that could affect your quote.
