I recently purchased a used 2019 XC60, and I really really love the car (been a Volvo fan for a while and have another p2 Volvo). The previous owner apparently installed one of those super annoying third brake light flash modules where every time I hit the brakes the light flashes 4 times before staying on. I hate when I see those on other cars, and touching my brakes in traffic annoys me because I know that light is back there flashing every time. I don't know specifically how the mod was done. Has anyone else either installed or disabled that feature on a newer Volvo?

Well I solved it. Just as the previous poster said, it was a module wired into the third brake light wiring just before it plugged into the plug going to the actual light in the top of the liftgate. Luckily, I could just disconnect the flasher module and reconnect the original wiring. There is a panel that pops out with some gentle prying with a trim remover tool at the top of the inside of the hatch to provide access to everything. There are a couple of pictures below showing where it is. Hopefully this helps anyone else looking to undo this annoying modification.

Yes, I intentionally wasn't hitting the brakes unless I absolutely had to because I knew it was doing that. It was killing me.

Ah, dealer installed only. The PO bought the car from the dealer who had installed it. Pulse 3rd. brake light.

I thought that the factory had settings like that for panic breaking in EU. I know BMWs can be coded to have that feature.
I admit, thought that I find them annoying and seizure inducing.

It does, but that's different than this. This is every single time you hit the brake it triple flashes.
The automatic emergency braking system has its own pulsing and I believe it also does it when ABS kicks in. That's to notify the driver behind you that something out of the ordinary is happening, whereas pulsing every third on ordinary braking is just annoying to everyone. I'd love to see it made illegal and triple flashes reserved for AEB.

Flashing brake lights are illegal in some states. Certainly in Virginia. However, whether its enforced is debatable.
We have different definitions of "professional" T-Taps are sketchy as heck, in my book.
Fair point, and I don't disagree. I more meant in terms of being able to simply put the system back together...it's not great to have that T-tap piercing the wire insulation, but a dab of liquid electrical tape would get it back to perfect.
