Thed Björk won the first race of the STCC weekend at former F1 track Anderstorp and extended his championship lead.
”It has been a really good weekend. I succeeded with the goals I had set ahead of the weekend with victory in race one and extending my championship lead. The car was perfect despite the difficult conditions, so a huge thanks to the team,” said Björk.

The victory was the Volvo Polestar Racing driver’s third straight and 25th STCC victory overall, meaning that he extends the championship lead to 30 points over BMW driver Fredrik Larsson in second.

Fredrik Ekblom had a strong weekend as well with two podium finishes in the rainy races, rounding off the weekend with second place in the final race, with team mate Björk in fourth position.

”I am never pleased until I am on the top step and in the championship lead. Those were my goals ahead of the weekend and we didn’t quite meet them. But two podium finishes feels good and we got a solid amount of points with us,” said Ekblom.

Prince Carl Philip had a tough start to the weekend with technical issues during testing, meaning vital time lost ahead of qualifying and the races. But the 36-year-old managed to score points in both races with eighth position as his best result.

”The problems we had in testing ment that we were on the back foot for the rest of the weekend. With that in mind I must say that I am quite pleased with the result in the races,” said Prince Carl Philip.

Björk heads the points table on 123 points, with Ekblom in third on 91 points, just two points behind BMW driver Larsson in second. Volvo Polestar Racing is in charge of the team’s championship, heading the table on 214 points with PWR Racing in second on 105 points.

”The two races in Anderstorp provided entertaining battles and a strong result for us. But the others have closed the gap and we have a hard job ahead of us to maintain our momentum for the coming races,” said Christian Dahl, CEO of Polestar.

Next up is the twilight race at Mantorp Park on June 25th.
