your banal attemt at humor is failing. i am a car enthusiast, and i resent your unilateral attempt at justifying whatever insecurities you have by attacking another car malkers product on a technical forum. It was stale a dozen years ago on the porsche forum, th bmw forum, and its stale here.

Please, if you must try to justify your masculinity because you drive the same vehicle my wife drives to tote our child in, do it in the OT forum, and not the technical forum.

Tommm, lighten up. This is just silly English humor. It was meant as a good natured jest. I actually thought the BMW 3 pictured in this Video was nice looking.

I love Top Gear...
Especially the BBC version. The key to enjoying it is not to take Jeremy Clarkson too seriously, especially when he pans your favorite car. He tries to get a rise out of everybody and anybody.

I enjly the english top gear (toss the poor us imitation please) and I as well as a lot of other 3 series owners enjoyed the episode when i saw it on TV. There is a time and a place for everything. Your lame stab at humor is in the wrong place.

I've seen threads like yours blow up into wars of forums. to avoid a feud like the one you are trying to start, I purposely didnt bring a thread about an e36 that rolled 5 times in a ravine with the driver walking out unharmed to this forum to show this forum's members that volvo is not the only cmpany that makes a safe car, and perhaps the mid 90s bmw is safer than a mid 90s volvo because of that one incident..., then post the nutswingers responses on the bmw forum...

Your foolishness can and will spark a feud if you keep it up because there are many porsche, bmw & volvo owners like me.

Good god... This is the same point I was trying to make in the other post about how to talk to a BMW driver. It's a transparent attempt to mask insecurities, whether it's done by Volvo drivers, BMW drivers, Mercedes drivers, anyone... I'm on a pretty large regional forum that caters to any car and we get a lot of the same attitude with drivers of fast domestic cars comparing them to their more exotic counterparts... "My Mustang is as fast as a Porsche ergo, why would anyone buy a Porsche?" Buy what you like; buy what you can afford. Posts like these are the equivalent of online small man syndrome.

I would love to see the e36 video. I not only enjoy TopGear, I enjoy all kinds of car videos.

And Jeremy Clarkson has also said the BMW 3-series are the best driving cars in the the world.

Humor? Don't try to brush this off and divert th issue by questioning someones masculinity. Some of you guys are either in denial or are willfully trying to skirt the issue by blowing smoke: the fact of the matter is the BMW front end is an organic theme derived from (and inspired by) the South American Fruit Bat and the African cape buffalo. When the Brits offer up something lightly and politely there is generally a serious message there, and there is here. No joke, it is a fugly car unless you want to be driving around behind a pair of nostrils. An issue hardly worth fighting to the death over, lol.

Friends dont let friends buy cars with front ends that look like flared nostrils: because "that just aint right"
No real man would want to be driving a pansy-a$$ pimpmobile poseur that had a front end styled after a South American FRUIT Bat, lol.

I think TG was being overly generous, because the car is oh so much more than just ugly.

Not at all, why be normal......and why drive a BMW when there are so many Volvos out there?
Plus the fact, any marketing department knows full well that people buy cars for various reasons and they exploit it in their marketing programs. Call it profiling if you want, but that is what it is to a degree, and the reverse is true: you can tell something about the owner of a certain car by the car he drives.

Got some nut-case driving a 29 year old Porsche with L-Jetronic fuel injection, the guy is a nut-case but might have some mechanical skills, probably can't afford a new one, or he is spending a wad of cash with some grinning mechanic to keep the old battlewagon running.

Got someone driving a Prius, they get their rocks off by driving at or below the speed limit in the left lane, either oblivious to the rest of the world, or with a chip on their shoulder.

So there are just two examples, and of course we ALL know the stereotypes associated with BMW, the most hated drivers in UK, with anger management problems, willing to argue to the death and take cheap shots about whether or not their car is ugly or not, etc., yadda, yadda. For that reason, and some others including cost and reliability, I would have a problem driving one it someone gave it to me. I just don't want to be thought of as a BMW driver/owner, its not me. I am much happier being associated with the Volvo people.

Yet the irony here is that it's the Volvo owner that's constantly chiding the BMW owners... I guess you're the exception that proves the rule.

The irony is this is your 15th post on this forum and you have it all figured out.
Had you been here longer you would know why some of us have "had it up to here" with the constant comments about how BMW this, BMW that, it is nauseating, so now we are having our fun. If the shoe fits..........wear it.

Look out !! Here comes a fruit bat......er cape buffalo, er BMW.

OMG it's a BMW,,,,,,,,,and they paid extra for THAAAT?

Seriously guys, put a set of ears on this ride, you better get a saddle, and have a good fence around your pasture.

Got to love those German designers, taking a design element from nature.
I hate to ruin it for you BMW fans out there, assuming there are some here on a Volvo forum, but the next time you see a BMW on the road you will be thinking "what were they thinking with the nostril theme". Hey, what are friends for, I'm being kind...........and after all SOMEONE has to tell ya......right? You won't hear it on a BMW forum. Consider this a PSA.

And since we're having fun enjoying a little levity in an otherwise stressful world..........how about this?
Chill guys, there is plenty of time to talk about those technical headlights that turn with the steering wheel, sheesh........................

"Pontiac Sues BMW Over Design Trademark.
Detroit, MI

Pontiac filed suit in Federal district court today seeking an injunction to force German auto manufacturer BMW to cease all production of Pontiac replica cars. Pontiac spokesman Jim Hobson commented that "Pontiac has had the market cornered in hideous design for the last fifteen years." At the heart of the lawsuit is Pontiac's claim that the Germans were not content to stay in the highly styled world of luxury cars and are are using the latest generation of Pontiac based BMWs in a direct effort to market their products to the tasteless American buyer. "We don't want to become the next Oldsmobile so we're trying to protect the only market we have left" said Hobson. "Once Kia and Daewoo started importing to the US, we lost a significant amount of our target buyers to these brands."

Although highly speculated, Pontiac made no comment on the rumor that former designer Chris Bungle fled to Germany with stolen documents and other Pontiac intellectual property. An undisclosed source inside Pontiac indicated that the missing documents included decades of market research into unreliability and a series of car drawings by 3rd graders upon which Pontiac has based many of their recent designs. "We would expect this sort of piracy from the Chinese," Hobson indicated, "but not from the Germans." A ruling is expected later this week."

(The judge threw it out, saying BMW had every right to take designs from nature and interpret them on a car).

Ah yes, you're just intentionally trolling. I bet I could respond with a single word and you'd respond with another diatribe comparing BMW styling to an animal. You just like to know you have a captive audience.

Well kudos to you sir! Enjoy your Volvo. I'm going to enjoy my 470hp, 30mpg cape buffalo and my Volvo!

yeah yeah, I know you're an ex BMW guy so my appologies, as you have been good natured about our retribution to the "holier than thou" postings we have received from BMW owners, some of whom post a BMW in their signature as they bash Volvo products here on a XC90 forum.

I long ago discovered there are two kinds of postings here on this forum, one is the serious tech section, and the other is the "ugly car/angry BMW owner" category, and of course we know which category this thread is in, so it should be obvious we are having some fun with this one.

So now guys............you who are pontificating here about your Beamers, how about a technical post about a volvo, eh? All hat and no cattle..............come on............initiate something other than a reaction. Lawguy, this comment is not directed to you, it is generic.

One thing about a XC90, you can not do this in one....................

OP and P need to get a room and talk out their feelings rather than continue to embarrass themselves in thread after thread by spouting the same drivel in every post.

I do find it entertaining though....reading their threads is a lot like going to wal-mart or watching a car wreck.

repacs, I'm glad you got the point. This is not a serious posting, it is a bit of levity. The funny part of this whole thing is, there are some who (obviously) take this humor-thread very very seriously, and for those guys I say, "just chill out for crying out loud". The other funny part about all of this is, "they", the people who think the occasional levity posting is beneath them, are actually reading this stuff and taking their precious time to post on the thread.

Their problem is, they like dishing it out but they sure can't take a little friendly jab. Some of them are wound up like a tight watch spring, take themselves ohhh soooo seriously, yet they are reading these humor postings and taking their time to post back. It is entertaining, and that is why Tostik posted this one in the first place: entertainment and just good fun. Then he got slammed, personally.

Tostik got it right, just lighten up. We all know how to get under a BMW owners skin around here, good Lord, even a twig snapping could set some of em off.

Now do I really think BMW got their styling idea from a fruit bat (of course I do! ha ha)

best,

P
