That's right . . . I'm considering selling my R.

I noticed that you mention that the wheel damage from changing tires is nearly unavoidable...

Is this really true, even with the dealer making the tire swaps?

In my experience, when using the Pirelli Rosso P Zero's, yes (especially the 18's). We've got one of the top-of-the-line tire changers, with scratch-free plastic fittings and everything. I cleaned everything before attempting to change the tires. The machine itself isn't powerful enough to get the sidewall over the rim, so you have to use tire levers in addition to the machine itself . . . that's where most of the damage around the edge of the rims came from.

I've seen some of my fellow techs put Michelins and other tire brands on the pegasus wheels without any problems . . . the Rosso's just tend to be more difficult.

stupid question, but i assume they are using some type of lubricant or grease during BOTH removal and install to cut down friction

Yep. But you have to be careful . . . if you use too much, there isn't enough friction to get the tire's sidewall to grip the edge of the rim.

Wow! Very unexpected...but almost $36K for a used '05 with 15K miles? I don't mean to knock the pricing, but judging solely by threads and comments from other members, it seems like a savvy buyer can pick up a new '06 for barely a few grand more (if that).

Unexpected: VERY, lol! But I've had my fun, and I really don't get the opportunity to drive this vehicle in its element, so I feel like I'm just wasting the car (and my money). Plus, as I get older, I find more important things to spend my money on (alarm systems for the house, replacing stolen lawn mowers, etc.).

You're right about the new car pricing, and that's why I posted that a new one could be had, same equipment, for around $39K.

But what I'm selling is the total package: the car, plus the upgrades. Which, if someone bought a new car for $39K, spent 4 grand on parts, and roughly two grand on labor, you're looking at $45K. So . . . brand new for $45K, or one year old, 15K miles, for nearly 10 grand less.

The other issue is that I don't have the time to return everything to stock, sell the vehicle where a stock vehicle should sell, and then sell all the parts.

I get people coming into the dealership all the time looking for a one year old R in the low to mid-30's, and we just don't have them. So I have no concerns whatsoever about getting the car sold . . . I just wanted the enthusiasts here on Swedespeed to have the first opportunity.

Besides . . . I did say I would consider offers

Oh, and the lease assumption would still be a good deal for someone.

Actually, no. Perhaps I've been one of the lucky ones

I'm really just looking for a change of pace, and a more cost-effective one at that. Nothing wrong with the car at all.

The worst is the when the technicians scratch up the bolt holes of the Pegs when using their air wrenches.

Man, not to knock the techs (I know they have their jobs to do and under a time limit), but I took my daughtors S70 in for a new set of Michelins yesterday and the guy drive the car into the lift bay where there were 3 truck tires laying on the ground in the bay. Tires went flying with one getting lodged under the car. Fortuanantly nothing got damaged. I was not a happy camper...

If they were all Sweedspeed members then they would baby the cars.

The techs who do that are idiots. I know first hand, having forced the dealer to repair mine a few months ago for that exact issue. That was AFTER I specifically told the service writer to put on the form "do not use air wrench on wheel lugs" because the wheels had been repaired previously for the exact same issue

WTF? The wheels are a stock VOLVO product. It's not like they are some strange and expensive set of dubs that they have to treat like they are made of glass.

The next time I had the car in the service writer went way out of his way to make sure the wheels would be taken care of. The tech used an air ratchet, but simply was careful doing it. That's all I'm asking. I don't really care how they do it so long as they don't damage my car while servicing it

I thought all "top-of-the-line" tire changers were roughly the same until I had my PS2s installed at Shoreline Motoring in Hungintton Beach, CA. They have some very expensive machine from Germany that does not even touch the rim. I know it sounds amazing, but there is a hairbreadth of clearance between the tool and the rim, and not a chance of a scratch.

They can install those crazy 25-series tires on 22-in rims with little risk of damage, and those make the Rosso's look like soft stretchy rubber bands by comparison.

I won't have my tires serviced anyplace else. Shorline Motoring is amazing. They do some of the work for Chip Foose in that TV show "Overhauling", and when I was there they had two of Foose's creations on display in the showroom (Foose is also from Huntington Beach).

Seems strange, as I've had both the dealer and two independant shops mount and balance tires on my 18" pegs with no damage at all. Not sure I would go along with the unavoidable comment...

I have had Pegs damaged at the dealer and at the local tire store. The service manage at Pedersen Volov in Fort Collins CO, who is a great guy, remarked that unless the installer is super super careful and/or has one of the super expensive machines, it is is very easy to damage the paint on the rims. Both the dealer and the local store did replace the damaged wheels. I've learned a lot about rims, tires and paint since buying my R.
