I thought I would share the story anyway.......so it was in 1986 when I moved to NY from Montevideo, Uruguay, South America. My very first car ever, a metallic light blue , 1973 Volvo 164E. I worked at this car and put so much money for over 2 years to make it look like new. My girlfriend, back them Petra, from Amsterdam Holland, was with me in the car after returning from a party in Manhattan to Mineola, Long Island. We hit a tropical storm like I have never seen before and the winds were so aggressive, the knocked a tree down. The rain was so strong we could not see 10 feet in front of the car so I have decided to ride in the center of the two way road so I could use the center line as a guide. Suddenly the lights went out on the road and my 20 mile and hour ride became to a holt with a huge bang....not the bang I would have liked that night but the bang of a tree on top the Volvo...............I really though I have crashed into someone walking in the middle of the road.....but the victim was greener....a tree.
The car stopped , fuel smell all over and I remember being under the heaviest rain ever, looking at this seen while crying and laughing at the same time......my girlfriend was looking at me like " what the heck is going on with me!!!!" laughing because I could not believe my luck after so much time and effort put into the vehicle.........crying because I knew the chances of recuperation that car with my limited funds was impossible.......I remember laughing many times more after that....and also crying for other reasons...but never lauging and crying at the same time.....must be a Volvo bug or a virus of some sort.......so there it is....it has taken me 23 years to find another car just like that...... happy dance that is!!!! thanks to you all.
enjoy the story,
Mariano
