As you all might know, the actor Donald Sutherland is the voice/narrator in all of the new Volvo commercials. MBVMS is the ad agency that Volvo uses to promote its products on TV, in print ads, and on the internet.
Donald Sutherland

This is the actual letter that Donald Southerland wrote to Ron Berger, CEO of MBVMS, after his accident in an S80, requesting to be the voice of Volvo:

-Drew

Hey Indy: I thought that accident occurred in the early 90's (ie: not in a S80). By the way, the intersection where that occurred is close to where I live!

quote:
Originally posted by InDy:
This is the actual letter that Donald Southerland wrote to Ron Berger, CEO of MBVMS, after his accident in an S80, requesting to be the voice of Volvo:
-Drew

When I think "the voice of Volvo", I think of Oddball from Kelly's Heroes.

The car that he was in had a passenger side airbag, so it had to have been a Volvo newer than 1992, because that is when Volvo introduced the first passenger side airbag.
-Drew

[This message has been edited by InDy (edited 04-27-2001).]

The part that thrills me the most, is that Donald restrained himself from saying what I hear far too often: "If I'd been in any other car, I'd be dead." Saying things like this just weaken the argument. Yes, being able to walk away from a bad accident is of utmost importance, but there is no telling how any other car would have perfomed in the identical situation. Heck, some small, cheap car may have performed better if only because it bounced higher when hit, and missed the flaming crocodiles in the river under it. You never know.
Thanks for sharing that with us Drew.
- Darell
