Went to the XC90 "Unveiling" the other night. The event was put on by Volvo and a Marketing Company at a local dealership. 2 XC90s were there (a T6 w/ metallic black and a 2.5T w/ a light green... green was different, but actually very nice). Reps from Volvo HQ etc. were there to answer any questions and sign you up for one. I asked about the OSD program (bought my 02 S60 last Oct), and was informed that all of the 50 per month slots were full for Nov and Dec, but I was possible to order on in Jan... also said that the pricing was not expected to be discounted as much as S40, 60, etc.
I was very impressed w/ both models show. Volvo really did their homework on the SUV market before jumping in. Most of the
XC90s are coming to the states instead of Europe. If I was still interested in an SUV (had one before my S60), it would be on the top of my list.

Re: The "Unveiling" and OSD/TDS (goldswede)

I also attended an unveiling the other night in NJ.
There was only one XC90 there, tho. It was a black T6 with the 17" wheels.
Very impressive in person - seems to be much larger than it's dimensions would indicate. The seats are extremely comfortable & supportive, I love the layout & quality feel of the interior. However, I was a little disappointed in the "wood" trim & "aluminum" door handles, they seemed a little cheesy.
An interesting note about the "wood" trim: I asked the non-Volvo-affiliated presenter (extremely knowledgeable, tho I already knew all the stuff he was talking about ) if the wood was real & he hesitated a bit then admitted that it wasn't! I was initially surprised by this since the Volvo site says that it is real. However, after looking at it I could see that it was plasticy looking & not of such great quality.
But that's a minor thing, I was very impressed by my first up-close encounter with the XC90.
& Volvo did themselves proud with the entire event, 1st class all the way - catered with hot & cold food, dessert, beverages...Also got a poster, a brochure & a cube that can be flipped open many different ways to reveal lotsa XC90 photos... All in all a very enjoyable evening.

Re: The "Unveiling" and OSD/TDS (blujeep)

The wood trim specs changed after the literature was printed. The original intention was for the wood to be real but now only the wood steering wheel will have real wood. The rest is simulated which is a very poor decision, IMO.
Yannis

Re: The "Unveiling" and OSD/TDS (GrecianVolvo)

My first impression when I sat in the XC90 at my dealer a few weeks ago was that the "wood" looks very fake. It's very disappointing on a vechicle that will cost well over $40K with options. This is a poor choice by the folks at Volvo as real wood would have been another point of difference over one of its major competitors- the MDX - which for 2003 will have a lot of improvements.
I have already started to look into replacement (real) wood kits from companies that sell them over the internet.
