...I removed my roof racks , and I don't think I'm going back unless I need them to hold gear for a family trip. I took them off back in April to improve gas mileage, and then I met up with 24Hours shortly thereafter to give him a guided tour of the north Jersey trails on our mtn bikes. To get to the trail head, we drove the newly paved, highly twisty, and generally deserted Clinton Road. 10 miles of curvy bliss, each way. I stowed the bike in the car so I could rail the corners without fear of the bike ripping itself of the rack.
Ever since then, I've realized how much quieter, more efficient (by approx 2 or 3 mpg) and - most importantly - better looking the R is when its lines are uncluttered.
Time to find a new motto!
I my R.

Re: The unthinkable (for me) finally happened... (icebiker)

Sir,
I had a blast keeping up with you on road as much as I did off road!
I have to skip tomorrow night's ride, since as I mentioned, bed time for bonzo(s) is a particularily sensitive issue for my wife now. But I'll be there in the coming weeks, even if it's in the dark, as I have 2 HIDs now (helmet and bars)!
Keep that R looking good! I think your other friends thought we were a bit corney having such similar cars. Oh well. I was the only hard-tail MTB there, so we were different in the equipment that mattered that day!
Cheers.

Man, now we look the same.... When you say roof rack, do you mean your cross bars or you took off your whole eurorail assembly?
We ended up getting Volvo's load bars which were relatively cheap and go off and on in no time flat.
At least there are still two of us on this board who are loving their cars.

Really looking forward to my 350+ horsepower... even if I won't really be able to enjoy much in Florida.

I had to get the Volvo bars, but was able to use my Yakima carriers. I hate to drop the mileage even more, but there's no getting any bikes in my car with the kids. Now you can actually use your sunroof without ear-plugs.

Re: The unthinkable (vintagemilano)

Carson, I left the euro rails on, since the rack will come in handy from time to time (like dashdog says...bikes + kids = rack)...but man it is so much quieter, too (and I even have the fairing kit on the rack assembly when it's on).
Don, I think my buds were more jealous than anything else. Once people realize its more than just another Volvo wagon, the tongues they go a'waggin.... let me know when you want to ride again. We did a night ride last Sat that was awesome...full moon, 68 degrees, dry...doesn't get much better than that.
Greg

Yeah, I haven't put any on mine because I heard about the wind noise issue. And I drive fast, so I'm sure the rack would be howling. Plus it just looks soooo much better.
