Landscaping blocks flew from the back of a truck at 55 MPH..... The one that killed the R went under the car and took out the oil plan, exhaust, front cradle, rear cradle, front and rear control arms, but the killer shot was to the right floor rail where it crushed the entire floor in. Looking at it from above all you see is a few dents to the hood and bumper. Put it on the lift and it is gone.
I was going to buy another R, but thought about all the maintainance bills I have paid for and decided to go another route. The new car is an Infiniti M35X. Not an R, but it was impossible not to fall in love once I took the test drive.
I have some leftovers posted in the classifieds if anyone is interested.

WOW! Glad you're OK and sorry to hear about the R! My neighbor has a M35X as a DD and he loves it. Smooth, reasonable quick and a tech junkies dream

Re: The R was destroyed by a landscaping block (ILRDriver)

I only have a few of the rail that the insurance company sent me. I don't have a host to post here though.
It was a pretty scary experience, but the worst part was my 4 year old was in the back seat and the noise the block under the car made was terrible.
On the leftover side of things, I am taking the best offer I have on Friday when I get back home. My shipping zip is 60538 or local pickup in Chicago area.
The M35X is a true dream to drive, but I do need a bit more acceleration when I hit the pedal on take off. Midrange is actually better than my R, but that is due to high revving as no 6 speed. Good thing is I can take this up to over 300 pretty cheap with a Plenum spacer, intake tube (already ordered), coolant bypass and exhaust. It should be more responsive. If anyone is interested how that works, let me know. I plan on installing next Saturday.

Man...must have been scary indeed, good luck with the choice. Fine choice it is too, but I did test drive the M35 before obtaining my R (as Joe mentioned, its a techies dream), it truly is. But the pickup was lack lusting and the option to go for the M45 wasnt there since it didnt have the AWD. I do love the packages they offer and the look and styling is chic. Hope you will be happy with it.

Thank God it went under the car. Glad to hear you and your child are OK, if a bit shaken up.

Sorry to hear about the R...but the big thing is you and the passengers are OK. Like someone else said, good thing it went UNDER the car...and not THROUGH it. I'm sure the new ride will be a good replacement.

I really appreciate everyone's kind thoughts! I think the most amazing thing is that had the floor not been reinforced the way Volvo does them, I am told it would have came through the floor. I asked my adjuster for additional pictures and if I get them I will share.
Well done Volvo!

Definitely seen less damage on these cars compared to the other things that have hit them...from pics posted on here. Definitley built for safety . Good thing, keeps peeps on here walking away from accidents.
Not to hijack your thread...while on the Volvo safety thing: I was at a little meet Sunday and when I was leaving someone yelled "Donuts of Safety!!"... at first but I definitely LOLed.
