Hej!

I recently visited the beautiful countries of Denmark and Sweden a few months ago. I rented a 'premium SUV' from a rental car company in Denmark. To my happy surprise, I was rented a Black T4 Volvo XC40. There was around 2500km on the odometer when I picked it up, and I dropped it back off with over 5000km. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. It was comfortable, roomy, smooth and fun to drive. It had the most comfortable cloth/textile seats I had ever sat in. I enjoyed it much more than leather as I didn't get hot or itchy like I do with leather seats. When I got back to the US, after sleeping off the jet lag, I called my local Volvo dealer and asked about OSD. I have known about OSD for a while, I came across it years ago, but never considered owning a Volvo before. Doing my homework, I've learned a lot about Volvo: Essentially a Toyota Transmission (8 speed from Japan!), Volvo built engine in Sweden, and some Borg Warner components in the drive-line. I was SOLD after learning that. So after conversing with my dealer, I went down and paid $3,000.00 to them and got my order submitted. Afterwards, I was told they didn't have an XC40 allocated, but, it shouldn't be long. Today I received paperwork from VolvoOSD to sign and submit (power of attorney, verifying my color, trim model etc.). I returned it earlier today and I am ecstatic about the entire process.

What I am ordering as a result: XC40 B5 AWD, Onyx Black, Dark Textile seats, no sunroof, no heated steering wheel but I did add the convenience package because I like the keyless grab the handle entry.

I'd like to put in the timeline for those that are also interested, and so you can see how my journey is comparing to yours.

01/09/2023 - Discovered an option was missing, change initiated on OSD order
01/09/2023 - Volvo OSD acknowledges change from dealership
02/15/2023 - Car has been built
03/13/2023 - Paperwork done at dealer. Car is now paid for.
03/14/2023 - Bought VIP Platinum warranty from Steingold Volvo in RI (Thanks Michael!!)

I am very excited about everything. I found this website by pure chance when coming across a comment on YouTube. I look forward to keeping you updated. Please let me know any tips or anything interesting/fun you'd recommend. I'm all ears. My first Volvo experience and coming from Toyota exclusively, I am nervous but also very excited to see what happens.

Cheers

Congrats! We have done two OSDs - We picked up our '19 XC40 in July 2018 and our '22 V90 CC in July 2022.

Best way to buy a Volvo!

Hey! Thank you!

I discovered that for OSD, for the XC40, you have to add the tailgate as an option despite it being standard? My dealer contacted Volvo and it was added and acknowledged by the OSD team. Hopefully it doesn't cause any issues. Got my flights booked and got the hotel booked. Looking very much forward to this. I also updated the timeline above.

Wow, the AdTrav interaction is a lot faster than when I went through the process in early 2022. The first part of the OSD order (allocation, OSD paperwork) was about the same timeline, but when it came to the travel booking I originally was only able to book a consultation nearly two months out! I eventually found an earlier appointment slot that was one month out, I presume from a cancellation. Even then, it took two weeks to get all the flights booked and confirmed, and that required some pushing.

Have a great trip!

Timeline above has been updated. Now the final planning has begun.

Currently this is the plan. Sweden > Denmark > Netherlands > Belgium > France > Luxembourg > Germany > Spain > Home (USA)

Congrats on doing an OSD and joining the Volvo club. We did OSD in 2017 for a 2017 XC90 T6 and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life...Volvo treats you like royalty and the experience was amazing. The hardest part is waiting for your car to arrive once it ships from Europe. Enjoy the ride.

Congratulations! We think about going the same route. May I ask - do you need to buy an extra warranty before picking up the car? Or you could do it later but decided to do it in advance? If the latter, what are the benefits of doing it in advance?
Thank you!

Reach out to Michael at Steingold for further details. For sure there is a mileage point that you may not want to go past, so if you're planning a lengthy OSD trip (like our third, which was about 3,500 miles) that may be something to address before you go.

Hey there!

My home dealer (where I got the car) quoted me an exhorbitant price for the VIP by volvo warranty. I then spoke with Michael at Steingold Volvo out of Rhode Island. He answered all of my questions. One of which was "do I buy now or later" and it only gets more expensive the longer you wait. You cannot buy the new car VIP by Volvo warranty beyond 1,000 miles per the website. I went ahead and bought it now before I even pick the car up next month. I got the platinum $100 deductible for 10 years 100k miles. Go check out their website and click on warranty and look through their pricing. He also had my warranty signed and processed to me in less than a day. Some of the best customer service I've ever experienced.
