Someone who was drink-driving crashed into the back of my S60R while my friend drove it to get the sills painted.
So now I need to find another car. I think I'll go for an S40 2.4 SE Sport. I read somewhere else on this forum that the S60R has bad luck associated with it. Yes its sounds ridiculous, but it was a hell of a job trying to buy the S60R in the first place and now its ruined. So obviously the message is that I should stay away from the S60R!

Re: The dream is over. (Token)

sorry dude, I love my R, it's got personality, but unfortunately at times it smells like fish.
good luck on the S40's. get a T5, I've driven it a while back, and it's peppy car.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I've been in your shoes.
I think I'm the one who mentioned "bad karma".
Hopefully no one was injured.
But I found the R hard to replicate among competitors.
I got another one.
So far, no bad luck . . . excepting one little incident today with some bird poop, an open sunroof, and Atacama.

It's only individual cars, and NOT entire lines that have bad karma ... take Christine for example ... it's not like ALL Plymouth Fury's are possessed, just that one .
Get another R

Sorry to hear about the car. I trust your friend is OK though.
Like we say on this side of the pond, "Dont hate the game, hate the player!" Go get yourself another R and enjoy it! What are the chances you are gonna wreck 2 Rs?

Then it was the brake squealing. After that, the clicking axle splines that won't go away after two loctites and one set of hub replacements. Then there was the rear ender last year that required bumper replacement. And last week, a front hit that scuffed up my LF Peg, crinkled my fender, and scraped the bumper fascia.
My R is definitely cursed.

Once the warranty work stopped the random accidents started for me. I was a step nine before my R. That is the lowest rate for insurance in MA. That's considering that one of my recent previous vehicles was my 69 Camaro that I built from the bottom up with close to 500 horse that ran high tens low elevens. I even drove it as my daily driver for years. Not one ticket or accident. Skip ahead to the R. Nine rims and tires. Three accident claims, the best ending up at about $27,000. A tranny, turbo, rack, two sets of shifter cables, and three sets of front brakes. Enough was enough for me. Gave my fiancee the car to use up the lease miles and bought something else. I feel your pain.

My V50 with ordinary Quartz Beige leather occasionally smelled like fish for the first year too. I think it's the Swedish leather works treatment.
Tom.

Token:
Verry sorry to hear about your accident. I think that may be the record for the shortest R ownership in history...less than 2 weeks? I hope your R insurance covers everything.
The R is not cursed, but if I remember correctly in your case it was a bit of a stretch for you to get one. I can certainly understand your wanting to heed the warning to get something a bit less challenging right now.
Good luck!

Hey -I know how you feel. I had an accident (my first ever) with my 05 and only 2500 miles on it. 6 weeks later when i got back..it just wasn't the same. So i got an 06- Electric Silver, and i added the body kit. So far no worries. Altho it seems lately some people in Los Angeles are actually trying or WANT to hit me cause the car is so cool! Get another R!

Re: (parkstephen)

I've heard quite a few folks crashed their R lately. While I felt bad for the owners, there's a devil in me saying to hold off selling my R because it there will be 1 less R's each day.......

Re: The dream is over. (MagoonR)

Well.....my curse continues. After much complaining, the regional rep came to town and fixed my axle clicking; something two loctites and hubs haven't been able to do. The answer, replace the axle bolts and use ones from an XC90. So.....the service advisor calls me this morning and says it's done. I said...."fine, I'll be in around 6:00 after my 18 holes". On the 11th tee, the cell phone rings and guess who it is? Yes, the service advisor telling me that my car was hit while parked on the dealer's lot. WTF? It's bright red. Is everone F%^$ing colorblind? Anyone....the curse definitely rolls on....and on.

Actually, my V70R does not smell like fish very often, and so far no fish smell at all from the S60R - which is a big dissapointment to me. My 850 had a much nicer bouquet, particularly on sunny days - it was a nice welcome back to the car.
Anyway, 200 miles on my S60R, and my first speeding ticket (61 in a 35). I didn't get any tickets at all in the V70R in 40K miles. I don't know if it is the black color, sedan instead of wagon, or the 18" wheels, but I hope that it does not continue.

Just to update. I tried out an S40 T5 SE Sport today and I have to conclude that it is the worst car I have been in for a long time. Awful interior and general all round quality. You sit really high up in it and the clutch was too low and soft.
To my surprise, the old C70 coupe felt the best after the S60R.
I should have just gone for the C70 T5 GT coupe I found a while ago instead of the S60R. But I got greedy and someone made me pay for the sin.
The angels are watching.......
