Re: The Bahrain Grand Prix - Sakhir Circuit - starts 4-21-09 (thesternowl)

I think there is less of a gap than is apparant, actually, between the diffuser 3/Red Bull and the slower "top" teams. Both McLaren and Ferrari were able to move to towards the sharp end of the grid in China, and it is quite possible we could have seen a battle for podium spots between the diffuser 3 teams and Massa and Hamilton. Not sure how much of it is down to the wet conditions, but we've really not seen the Ferrari's true pace (all Ferrari's fault) and I'm sure the Macca is quicker now, than it was in Melbourne. I predict a much more competitive race than we've seen so far, this season, in Bahrain.

According to Adrian Newey (Red Bull designer), their cars were a few 10ths faster than the Brawn's when you look at the comparable lap times:
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/he...shtml
All the teams will be getting closer together as the season progresses.
Renault was using practically duct tape to hold their car together because they were in such a rush. Maybe in Bahrain they will have a tighter spec and blast some lap times.
We will see...

Camry's 4 Life!
I can hardly wait for the race tomorrow.
This season, despite some of the typical Formula 1 politics, is shaping up to be very exciting.
...and with Massa and Raikkonen both qualifying in the top ten...perhaps maybe, just maybe Ferrari could earn a point...

Finally! Ferrari score in the points. But another telling race for them. They need the updates right away. Great start from Lewis. THIS was a great race. It seems that Ferrari can run with the big boys, but just, and on a compromised pit strategy.
WTF is up with Ferrari's KERS?!!
Great race from the Brawn and Red Bull teams, despite Webbo getting screwed in Q1.

Ferrari a bit better. BMW...WTF? Holy Jeebus, when did they turn into Force India?!?! Guess putting the KERS in Kubica's car wasn't a good idea.
On one note, it would have been exciting to see everyone finish. But Nakajima...well, what happened?
Oh, and what happened to the Toyotas? Especially Glock? He was up and down through the field like a yo-yo.

When I do that, I listen and look up when I hear Matchett and Hobbs going nuts over something, LOL.
I take small exception where you say that the cars were "able to perform at their maximums the entire race". As referenced by our friend above, the Toyotas fell off the pace due to having to use the prime tire, thus the team is not able to put the best car on the track at a time.
I find this to be a ludicrous thing, to be honest. Why intentinally handicap the teams in that way? Strategy? That's even stupider than trying to force passing by re-doing all the aero. Racing should not be predicated on pit stop strategy involving "having" to take a tire that is a poorer performer than the other.
It's better strategy to let someone make the decision to take a gamble on a different compound, or staying out longer, etc. Kind of like saying: ok, you have to run at least one lap with your front wing off. Figure out when you want to do that and factor that into the race.

So, with the prime tire, if their performance blows, that *is* the maximum, sucky performance the car can acheive. It really is a stupid rule, though.
