I highly doubt that is the actual temperature. The manual itself states that you have to be moving for the temperature reading to be accurate. I have come back to my car many times after parking it in the sun for an hour or so, to find 125 degree plus readings once I start the car. They drop once you start moving a bit.

Hmm, historical world record is 136 degrees...back in 1920's...

Isn't it the car itself that records higher temperature than air via radiation?

When I started the car it was 124 but when I pulled onto the road waiting at a light it hit 132, then 136 after i started moving, in reality it was only 116.

136 is realistic for air temp + radiant heat coming off of asphalt.
