OK, so when I first got my 2.4i, maybe in January, I had to break it in. All I had room for was about 120mph. So after a night of kicking the back end out and flying past people at 100mph+, my gas mileage began to suck. I need to know with the problem is because I can see my school from my window (Graduated) yet I dont think i can go a week on a tank. On a cold start i get about 6 or 7 mpg without barely touching the gas. My girlfriend lives about 30 minutes away (all highway), but I used to get 50 sometimes 60 mpg going 80 or 90 on the freeway. Now I cant even see 40's. Whats the problem? Tune up? Oil Change? Or the computer just wrong? To get around 20 mpg i have to switch to the ****ty manual automatic and practically stay in 5....can someone diagnose the problem?

Re: Terrible Gas Mileage (GetDown)

I find it hard to believe you could get 50mpg, let alone 60 mpg on the hwy driving at those speed. Perhaps for a brief instant while lifting and going downhill...
Don't look at the computer. How many miles do you get per tankfull?

Re: Terrible Gas Mileage (Dede)

I used to get crap mpg unless i would drive nice and easy. You cant be putting your foot down or it will drain u ...
In your case though it seems to be something a little more .....

yea correction, i got the numbers mixed u...I could get about 40+/- mpg on the highway going 70. Thats without stepping on the gas and keeping the RPMs steady. Im not exactly sure about the miles per tankfull, i guess ill check that this fill up, but the gas tank meter seems to go down quicker than it usually does.

Ummm, I would still question 40 mpg, you ever do the rough math at the pump? Again, don't look at the comp. Isn't a bad O2 sensor one possible cause for poor mileage?

Maybe the computer was wrong, I just won look at it...regardless gas still goes pretty fast, would it be worth taking to the dealership 2 minutes away?

Re: (GetDown)

First i would do it the correct way and gauge your fuel mileage per full tank of gas by resetting your trip computer everytime you fill up. After about 3 tanks take an average. That will tell you more accurately what your MPG is.

Re: (ForceFed Motorsports)

I average 22-23MPG city (35-40 MPH with lights) and 29-31 MPG Highway (70-75 MPH) in my T5.
If I go 55-60MPH my MPG increases to about 33-34 MPG

But as soon as I hit a slight grade, the mileage goes down. So I'm thinking on flats, you probably get near 40 MPG.

Thats why the instantaneous (spelling lol) gas mileage on most cars is a joke. Go by gas tank average MPG its much more accurate

Yeah I can't go a week. The trick is to just drive easy...but honestly is it worth it?
But I did notice significantly better after changing spark plugs and an oil change.

Man you all have to remember, even more with the 2.4 that its a HEAVY car with little motor :/ thats why u need a T5 for better mpg

Turbo has been proven for better volumetric effeciency however having the turbo at your disposal doesnt exactly promote easy driving

fully emptying a tank I get a little over 400KM. I fill up with 91 octane. Remember as well your aftermarket rims decrease your mileage quite a bit.

I personally don't car about mileage anywaz since i drive all city. City driving kills any car's efficiency. my RDX only gets 16 MPG in the city.. BEAT THAT! lol.. but it's still better than my land rover discovery I had previous to the RDX...hehehe
