I have a 2016 S60 Inscription FWD with 235/40/19 tires (orig. equip) and want to get wheels and winter tires. I thought 17" wheels with 215/55/17 Nokian R3's would be a good choice. When I told my dealer that I wanted to use 17" wheel for winter tires the service manager said I could not do that because "the ABS won't work right, and the computer will be all messed up". I am not sure this is correct - so I tried to contact Volvo Cars home office and can't get anyone with technical knowledge. I was told to ask a tire company. I was more concerned with the offset and ensuring 17" rims cleared the disk brakes than the other issues. But now I need to find someone who actually knows. I see the 2015 S60 came with 17 wheels and I don't know if there were any changes with the minor redesign. Does anyone have experience with this and/or know how to get technical support from Volvo? I can't rely on a tire and wheel retailer to know the car well enough. I am very surprised that there is no way to contact Volvo for technical information.

This subforum is for the new SPA-based S60 being released later this year. You'd probably have more luck from the experts in the S60, S60CC & V60, V60CC (2011-2018) forum. I have a 2016 as well but don't know the answer off the top of my head. I'm sure someone over there will!

No. This is the correct subforum for 2011-2018.
Don't know why your dealer would say that because your 235/40 19 will put you at a diameter of 26.4" and the 215/55 17 at a diameter of 26.3". This is a difference of about 0.38%. That is pretty darn close!!

If you search through snow tire posts on this forum you'll find lots of people running 17 inch wheels for winter. The 215/55R17 size you're looking at will keep your speedometer accurate as the diameter is almost identical to your 235/40R19 original equipment tires. I don't know what your service manager is concerned about. I'm running 215/55R16 Gislaved winter tires on oem steelies provided by my Volvo dealer. The ABS works just fine but the speedo reads 4 percent faster than I'm actually moving. Get yourself a good looking set of wheels for winter so your S60 will look good 12 months of the year.
