Hello all,

I searched the web and the forum for answers, but could not find any. I also tried to PM someone who apparently is an expert on the Motorola BT hands-free installed by the dealership, but no response.

My cousin has a 2006 XC90 with the Motorola BT phone module on the dash. It works well, but only handles calls. Does anyone know if the audio wires can be tapped/T'd to add an aux, and if there is sound transmitted through, if it also triggers the mute? I tried to search for the wiring diagrams, the triggering points, if anyone has done it, found the installation instructions, etc. Only thing I found is soldering the wires to the rear FM module, but looking to utilize what's already there.

Unfortunately, on a recent 8hr road trip, my cousin had to resort to a BT speaker for the passengers and his toddler. Hoping I can help him out with a simple solution and not having to purchase a Grom or similar unit. Below is the same type of hands free BT he has in his vehicle.

I have the same adapter. It mutes the audio channels and delivers 10w of audio to only the front speakers. It’s barely acceptable to powers the premium audio system and was definitely not designed for stereo anything.

If you can get AUX audio in, I installed a bit adapter with a ground loop isolator and am happy with the sound as well as it allows my phone to connect to both simultaneously.

Ah, I did not know it only goes to the front speakers.

Yeah, in my 2008 XC90, I have an aux and hardwired a BT adapter that came with an isolator under the center console with the BT head/microphone sticking on one of the blank spot of the switches under the climate controls. Can barely see a wire sticking out so the idea was to create an aux in the 2006 and do something similar.

I used these two components to hardwire BT and wired into the lines for the rear center console lighter/power and the aux. Wiring to the center console lighter power allows the BT to power down when the car is off to prevent parasitic draw and for easy identification of fuse changes if needed. I did look at wiring it to the fusebox, but thought the power draw is so minimal that the lighter socket could handle the draw.

I then placed the head/microphone of the BT on the lower switch panel under the climate control, but I didn't want to use the 3M double sided tape it came with on the dash. Ironically, I had leftover sticker shield, that stuff you put the window stickers on so you can easily peel it off later. Cut one to size and it easily sticks and holds the BT microphone. No permanent sticky situation and I can later test different area placements.

If I can get aux into the 2006 XC90, I might use the same components.

If he has the 6CD changer, the GROM is totally worth it. You can resell it if the vehicle is ever sold etc.

He does and that is the current option, but the price is high. Thanks.
